Well...each and every mag that has tested the M5 and M6GC has preferred the M6GC over the M5 by a wide margin. Maybe the difference shows up at speed (where many of us do not drive)- but there really aren't very many good reviews of the M5 out there and there are a bunch of M6GC good reviews.
Well, I understand it, GC comes standard tuned equal to CP... and so now, M5 has got the tune and they call it CP... If you read earlier posts, there is someone on here just posted having driven both,- GC and M5CP, and they said M5CP was more agile... I can see that the dofference in wheel base can make it so...

A good many of board members including myself drove the M5 & M6GC at Circuit of the Americas this summer. I am surprised I am the first to comment.

First to set the stage: We drove '13 M5s from the BMW Performance Center with obvious hard miles on them vs '14 M6GCs brand new and with CCB brakes.

In my opinion the M6GC was more communicative and 'slightly' better at driving hard. They also had a slightly lower cG and felt like less roll.

Although others in the CotA thread had differing opinions.

I'd venture a guess that a '14 M5, especially one with CP would handle and feel just as good as the M6GC, or better with the CP.

Oh and I FINALLY got my M6GC session online here. 3 laps and hitting speeds up to 146 mph on the back straight.

PS: we also drove the M6GC around Austin. It's a great daily driver (as is the M5 I would assume).

My experience with the reviews are opposite with yours. I keep reading about the M5 handling better than the GC and that the GC has more inherent body roll and less control compared to the M5 at the limit. My own experience with both in Sepang F1 track validates that. The M5 felt more crisp, had better visibility, and turned in more keenly than the GC. The M5's chasis tuning is also more communicative. You are more aware of adhesion compared to the GC, which felt more like a barge. No, i don't think the GC came with Comp Pack right on the onset. I went to that GC launch event with the intention of buying the car, but went away disappointed.

Every M car is supposed to be the pinnacle of its standard counterpart, (1,3,5,Z etc) but that doesn't mean that they can't be improved upon. It's better than BMW not taking a second look at the M5 again! Past M5s never received any mechanical revisions to the extent of the F10. Look at the E46 M3 ZCP, CSL, E92 M3 ZCP, CRT, and GTS! BMW develops these cars because there are always lunatics trying to go faster For 90% of the population, the "base" Ms are plenty.

Is 150MPH enough speed? I've driven both cars back to back on track at Circuit of the Americas.

The journos rightly praise the steering enhancements that all LCI M5/M6/M6GC models have. The GC specific praise is unfounded, at least from a performance perspective.

Incorrect. The GC comes tuned with a softer suspension than a base M5.

Interesting point of view. Then why have options? Why not only offer the car fully loaded?

Then why have options?!?!?!?

Options permits access to a much wider consumer base.

On what basis does an individual argue against options in any environment? One size does not fit all.

IIRC, Steve Sutcliffe liked the F10 when he reviewed it a couple of years ago.

Sorry. My post was in response to Nickblack's post (#88) where he argues CP should be standard and folks who don't want it all should buy a 550. Hit quick reply instead of qoute.

I suspect that some of the comparisons of the F10 and F06 (Gran Coupe) favoured the F06 because they did not compare like with like. The F10 had some mods to the steering that improved it with the face lift, the F06 has in effect always had the improvements. Many of the 'F06 is better' comments were made comparing the new F06 to the original F10. Also, many of the press F06s were fitted with Carbon Ceramic brakes, these were not available when the F10 was introduced, which significantly reduce the rotating mass, improving performance and ride comfort.

The F06 is slightly softer in comfort mode, similar in Sport/Sport+ to the F10 comparing like for like (CP or no CP).
