Low Coolant Warning

Hello All,

Had a weird experience this morning with the M. I got in my car this morning and started it cold. After a few minutes of idling I got an error stating that I was low on coolant. The car has 39,000 miles on it and isn't due for service until June. I was able to get it on a lift to see if there were any leaks.Thankfully I couldn't find any! I refilled my reservoir and my error light went away seems like all is okay now.

I'm just curious if it makes any sense that the car would be burning coolant or if there is any logical reason why I would lose coolant if there is no leak.

I honestly wouldn't know. I picked up the car a month ago from Park Ave Group. I guess I will have to take it to the dealer to find out.

Just called the dealership they have record of it being done last May. I'm due for service in two weeks anyway so they're going to check it out.

Hopefully it'll be the same for me. Getting it checked out when it goes in for service.

If you pop the plastic cover over the turbos and see heat-shielding on the turbo coolant pipes, it has had the update.

BTW, to confirm... which coolant - IC or Radiator? Which one did you fill up... one on the driver-side or passenger-side?

The car didn't state low ic coolant it was complaining about engine coolant. I refilled in the reservoir on the drivers side and the error went away.

Usually but not always, if the coolant is low, the system has a leak. I would bring it in to have it checked especially if your warranty is expiring soon. Do you smell burnt coolant after a spirited run?

silver heat sheild sleaves mean they may have just checked the lines and fitted the sleaves, if they still leak new turbo lines are required.

Mine has the heat sheild sleaves AND leaks from the small flexi lines in them so goes in this Wednesday to have new lines fitted.

So i just got word back from Life Quality BMW. It's leaking coolant from the Turbo Lines . Looks like the start of a long week!

The best part is they don't have a loaner to give me so I'll be stuck driving the wife's Beetle

When the dealer replaced mine I got it back the next day. You should get it back quick. Make sure they replace the lines going to both turbos as if the lines going to one turbo needs to be replaced it is likely the other set will soon fail too. It will save you another trip to the dealer.

When you guys are topping off the coolant, are you just pouring 100% coolant in, or are you premixing it 50/50 with water?
