Starting a new thread because someone stole my spoiler - PISSED! - (new spoiler on)

So you guys were all really helpful in terms of the advice you gave me to prep my bootlid and install the M performance spoiler using 3M...

All went very well....

Got home and parked up in my usual spot right outside my house...Spoiler was still there!... had a look out of my windown at approx 12am and then went out for my run at 5.30 am...Guess what no dam spoiler!!!

I suppose if I get another one, this time I will use betalink to ensure it cant be taken off that easy..Luckily there was no damage to the bootlid however they managed to get it off...

there is a bigger problem now though....This was either seriously bad luck, or im actually worried that someone is now "watching my" car...Any tips on what to do if this is the case???

Wow ! Sorry to hear about this !

I reckon on the following :

1) Re fit a new spoiler.

2) Fit CCTV

3) Purchase baseball bat

Im think of maybe getting some kind of CCTV system..Problem is I live in a typical London Terraced victorian house with resident parking on the street...Im not even gauranteed to park my car directly outside my house on some nights so not sure CCTV would be much use

Already have a baseball bat stashed away and right now would love the opportunity to use it!

Sorry bro. That really sucks, it has me worried now.

Is it possible it fell off?

Is it typical for someone to steal the spoilers or CF parts in London?

Definately didnt fall off....

I checked the car when I took the rubbish out at approx 12am..When I checked the car in the morning before going for my run I was gobsmacked to see that it had gone...

There are about 5 BMWs on my street...Two recently had their locks drilled and mine just had my spoiler stolen. Im therefore thinking maybe its the same gang/person doing this??

My real worry is that someone is watching the car (or is it literally just bad luck that someone dodgey walked past and saw a nice CF spoiler that he thought he could rip off?......I really dont know, but seriously to have the spoiler stolen within 12 hours of installing it???WTF!!)

If I buy another one and attach it with BETA link, if the car is being watched then no doubt they will try to steal it again and if its attached with BETA link they may actually damage the car next time

Im so pissed off....if I got hold of the scum bag that did this....!!!...Plus I live in a super low crime rate area and not the ghetto!!!

Thanks thats the one ive been looking at, just need to find a reputable installer who can hardwire the unit for me in London

To be honest, Ive been kicking myself all day that I used 3m tape...Ive got no intention of removing the spoiler once its on...Should have used Beta link so that it wouldnt have been as simple as pulling the spoiler off...

I never considered the stealability issue when debating between Betalink and 3m tape but I guess ive now found out the hardway

Black vue front and back dash cam
cat 5 tracker
cobra immobiliser
re-located iso port

should do the trick.

Sorry to hear such a thing could happen.

This exactly, though, is why i would never buy a good expensive car without having a secure garage to keep it in.

Not a simple task in London though,i know......

if i had to leave my car in the street, i would be only driving a clapped out Toyota Camry.......

So use the betalink this time..., and place one of these on the rear as well. You'll be set.

So ive just ordered a new spoiler and now feel incredibly nervous about this thief coming back to steal the next one as well...

If I use 3m tape, he can just rip it off again...If I use Betalink, he wont be able to rip it off but may damage the spoiler and boot lid in the process....So what on earth do I do??

Im hoping it was just a one off chancer but the fact that it happen with 12 hours of installing the spoiler makes me think that the car is being watched and hence if I put another spoiler on, they will just try to steal that too...

When it either goes on with tape or betalink I will be sleeping on the sofa to try and hear something...

Does anyone else have any other thoughts? considering a dash cam yes......Should I even bother putting the new spoiler on or am I just asking for trouble??feeling super paranoid right now and still so pissed off!!! (Best solution would be for me to catch this punk in the act)

This will sound so crazy but ... I wonder if theres any type of sliding clip or some way you could take it off during when its parked up. Then clip it back on when your driving

It will drive you crazy and wont be able to relax in your own home drbru thinking that spoiler is sat there waiting for this prik to steal it again.

Good luck mate

Its definately an innovative idea but not sure I could make it work...I agree though that I am going to go slightly crazy waiting for this guy to strike again!

Whats strange though is that in London anyway..I have probably seen only 15 M5s in 2.5 years that I have owned my car and none of them have had the carbon spoiler on them...Will keep an eye out on ebay etc to see if anything comes up but if I spot it on any local cars, I will def have a good look at the spoiler especially if I find it on a bog standard 5 series

How about a Carcoon? http://www.carcoon.com/

You could fill it with something 'interesting' that will give the thief a bad day if he penetrates it.

The police give away these 'DNA kits' in high crime areas. Am not completely sure what this kit contains but I know theres some type of way to invisibly mark your property. If its ever recovered/found there will be no doubt its yours.
I suppose contact your local station they could tell you more

that carcoon in London

Get yourself a quality car cover that can be securely locked. Usually thieves will not even bother if they have to put any effort into ripping you off.

That just sucks. I had just saved up enough while working and going to school in San Diego to buy my first new motorcycle. I lived in an apartment and only had street parking. So, had a nice cover, bought one of those New York chain link locks and wrapped it around the front and rear rims. Gone, in less than 6 hours. Glad I had full insurance. Not the same, but if professional thieves want it, they'll get it. I think if you had the clips they'd steal it and you'd have damage left to deal with. I'm not sure what you can do to prevent this. Good lighting, a touch sensor alarm, etc... May prevent, but things like dashcam, CCTV and even the trunk monkey can only help you after the fact. Is there monitored garage parking nearby?

well that really sux! only problem if you get another one like you mentioned is if he decides to come back and steal it again. if you use beta link you it may just end up damaging the trunk and the spoiler itself?
