Alot of supposition and decisions over one video where not one person here has driven the car

We are all M5 owners or were at one point even with those "rear" calipers and Ill give the brand the benefit of the doubt and wait for a chance to actually drive it.

I have been thinking hard over what's next. Exactly a year out until my F10 goes back. I'm going to hold my judgement until I see and drive the new M5. AMG E63s sounds amazing but the backend looks eh. I don't think I could live with that thing. I thought about S63 but that's a boat and I don't need that size.

I was super excited when F10 M5 came out. Don't feel the same way for this upcoming one. Want BMW to make some ridiculous cars but they are becoming too formulaic for my liking.

I've owned the last 2 previous M5 models BMW put out but I think I'm done this time , my next car will definitely not be an M5 again . E63s AMG is what I'll look into next .
E63AMG has new and better engine too?

Vic I have no doubt at all that the actual drive is going to be awesome. It'll be the fastest best handling and most tech packed M5 yet.

It's simply the philosophy of the car I do not like. I don't want to spend another $100k+ on an exhaust note I've been listening to for the past 5 years.

Dave, We all know today's car business is all about marketing and making more money will minimum possible cost of R&D ... M division or AMG are not the same as 30 years ago. The purpose of that kind of competition is not there anymore because they found their market and know people are in love with their cars so there is no need to bring some thing new if they don't have to do ... on the other hand S63TU is a master pieces of engineering. It's not generating 800 HP because it's not supposed to be and is not designed for this purpose as a legal street car but has a very amazing power/torque performance. I do understand that you are tired of this exhaust sound and I completely agree with you;So maybe it's time to go for something else ... S85 V10 is gone and will never come back again... AMG has the best exhaust sound (IMO) so there is a simple decision between the sound of AMG or sporty feeling of M.... ... BUT you have to make sure you are a MB guy before making the final decision ... I believe you should test drive AMG GTS one more time
End of rant

Btw, I saw an interesting bimmer today while I was on 15 south by Miramar; it was a new model murdered out (black matte wrap, black wheels, tint). It had side vents, low profile, quad exhaust, and some funky looking Euro lights (nothing like an M550i G30 or B7 Alpina)... The tail lights were similar to LCI E60. I should've followed him but I was in between meetings.

First thing that came to mind was new M5, but it was kind of big.... I hope to run into it again sometime.

When looking for an M5,...I tossed and turned over getting an MT or DCT car. Naturally, I knew what to expect for an MT car,..you know, rowing through the gears!,....or wishing at times you had an auto-box in crazy mad NORVA/DC/MD traffic. Note, I say this coming from a 550xi M-Sport! Mind you, it was loaded with bells and whistles,...and up until then, was the highest level of BMW I had owned in a sedan. Before, it my X5M held the title. So, upon test driving an M5,...MT,...I bought it. I bought it and didn't even bother to test drive it's cousin with DCT which was on the lot.

Now, the question is, have I regretted it - nope! Not the least! I think I'm going to find a place to park it and see what happens 10 years from now or so. The only thing I'd say that I miss leaving the 550xi would be the secure feeling of the XDrive system in inclement weather and taking some of my favorite corners in the area!

So, it appears that BMW decided to take the middle lane and add a highly coded xDrive system (coupled with an Autobox) to the F90 M5. I have no doubt they will sell every M5 that's makes the boat ride. Now, I will be the first to say that I can't afford a new one,...but I damn well will be test driving one for sure!

Now, how about this for a laugh! Since BMW pipes the engine sound into the cabin of their cars these days,....what it they added a "dummy clutch (DC)" with the autobox! The "DC" would give you the feel of engaging a Clutch,..and the gear change would be accomplished by the gear selected in Sport setting! The pressing of the "Dummy" clutch would give same or near same affect as a real clutch on a MT car.

Now,..before all of you guys rear your heads back with grand laffs,....don't laff too hard! Why? Well, there was a time when you have to search both Polar caps to find a "turbocharged" BMW,...and not there is a "turbo bimmer" throughout every model! There was a time when you could order a BMW without A/C! Try it now,...the Sales Associate will send you on your way. So, if I can imagine this,...it only takes some wicked coding to implement this idea into a modern day automobile.

...go ahead,...send your laffs this way! :-)

Edit: Before anyone asked,...Yes, yes you would have to depress the 'DC' for a gear change!,...but again, this system would only work with the gear selector being in "Sport" mode! As a safe guard,...a gear change would occur if you exceeded the Redline for more than 3,...4,...5 secs, etc.

If there was ever a reason to wait for the LCI or Comp Package - this is it. I bet we see a new transmission (like they did with the X5). I still don't get not having DSC active in RWD mode. Too risky IMHO.

yes but you cant deny that buying a new car for 100k should bring the excitement of a newly designed engine, subsequent new exhaust sound and a new driving experience, this new M5 looks seemingly like a fecelifted F10 with 4wd, BUT with the added drawback of not being able to tune for quite sometime until new encryption worked out, AND when tuning does finally become available, it looks like it still has the same weak spot rods as the F10 as it's the same engine (as pointed out by all-motor)

Much better cars out there for when we all change, i wont be holding out for new M5

I'm sure that it will be a great car, a balance between sport and luxury. We bought our cars not to be track cars, but as a sport-luxury car with the capability of going on the track. I'm going to miss my F10 M5 when my new '18 991.2 C2S arrives in September. Maybe if I need the convenience of the size and trunk, I will go back to an M5. I personally will wait for the LCI version for when a competition package will likely be made available.

My post wasnt for the masses, it was towards RPIM5 (thus quoting his post and my sarcasm directed to him in the words: LIES)

My post was quoted directly to him for a reason... I agree that the car has a weak exhaust but Dave (who I quoted) has done extensive exhaust mods and vids to make himself smile at night. It was more of a tongue and cheek post for him.

Yes of course! Haha! I love the sound of the S63tu engine, when modified.

But even though I love the sound of this car, I can't justify spending over another $100 grand on another car with the exact same sound. The only exception would be if it had a V10 or V12, then it's not even an issue. If it were up to me all M5's would have V10's and V12's. Aston Martin is another good example, they essentially use V8's and V12's exclusively but it's all good because they are wonderful sounding engines and with each generation they manage to make them sound better even when they put turbos on them.
