Bad idea to purchase M5?

Hey guys just sold my X5M and I'm debating about purchasing another F10 M5, but is this a bad idea due to a new G M5 coming in the near future??

This year 2016, is the last production year for the F10 m5. The 2017 production year will only have G30 5 series. My guess is G M5 will be 2018.

These cars drop like a rock. There will be some additional hit from new model but my guess is not that much. I say that because the changes that have been discussed so far don't make the next M5 sounds like a home run, especially in a field where you have AMG and others stepping it up a lot. Same engine but tweaked with output at 600 hp, electric assist steering, questionable interior styling (if 7 series is a gauge). Nothing to scream about. iDrive 5.0 is ok - hand gestures are annoying IMO.

I would depends on how you feel about the upcoming G series styling. If you are buying you are in for the long haul anyway (I presume).

I get what you are saying, I just don't want to buy today's M5 and see a brand new styles M5 with in a year.

E90 pretty much hit the nail on the head.

The next M5 will be great, it will be the fastest M5 ever, but even more muted than the F10. If you had asked me years ago if I'd rather have the cars get progressively less visceral yet achieve blistering, mind boggling performance, I'd have told you, you are crazy, that doesn't sound like M Division. The next M5 may in fact be the last M5 with an internal combustion engine. We may see a 2024 M5 with a completely electric drivetrain. I'm hoping to be driving a Huracan by that time though.

But to answer the question at hand, no if you buy an F10 today, the next M5 won't be out until at least the summer of 2017 as the 2018 model year M5. So that give you about a year and a half from today at the least, but more probably like 2 years.

If you can wait, id wait on the 2nd year of New M5 since 1st one will always have some issues.

If you cnt wait. Maybe good idea to get into an F10 through swap a lease with less years on contract. So you can time your end lease with the New M5

Who knows what will be available in 2017/2018, Id get it for the NOW--- right now you can get an M5 for almost 10% off with ready available mods and aesthetics. Its a simple plug and play car with wheels, exhausts, spoilers, carbon fiber etc all out there (I know the OP is a modder).

Lease an F10 M5 for 2-3 year lease and when the new G M5 comes out you can look at it and if you like it just buy it, if not then just buy your F10 off lease!

You can't keep up with the race - don't bother trying...

First of all - the M5 is an iconic vehicle. No matter the series, year, etc. When I drive my E28, I am driving the pinnacle of performance in a sedan in 1988, E34 in 91, E60 in 2006 and soon to be 2016 F10 (on order). You can never keep up with the body style chances, face lifts, comp packages, etc. Don't bother trying.

Get the M5 now and enjoy it. It is completely badass and the next version probably won't be stateside for 3 or 4 years.
