I am only waiting for the IND tune to be released before I pull the trigger on a tune. The IND tune is schedule to be released late this month from what I understand.

my tune was installed today.

in a couple words - freakin crazy.

the power seems to come on earlier in the throttle travel, and definitely seems torqier. A LOT torqier. (is that a word? lol)

it seems more like that "WALL" of torque that my cls63 5.5TT had.

( i believe torque increase is supposed to be around 150 lbft)

after my installer (his name is Derek) installed it,( took about 30 min just because he had to remove the air boxes, filters etc) he said "ok, lets take it for a burn".

so we got out on the highway and i floored it in 1st, immediately there was complete and total wheel spin all the way threw 1st and in second as well. (man, the active sound sucks, it seems the authenticity of it breaks down the harder you push the engine. just sounds like you have 2 giant pillows over your ears.

anyway, i quickly shut it down in 3rd, because we were at that point doing about 150 in a 70 zone (km/h).

it scared him a little. ( and myself a little) probably because he thought i was going to loose control of the car. but it's still somewhat composed even when you're fish-tailing, as you all know, I'm sure.

he goes to me - "man, that's fast. like, thats GTR fast".

he also said it will get stronger over the next 200 km's or so. oh, and carbon filters were removed too.

I'm going to the drag strip next weekend to see how it performs...

ill report back on any issues i have, if any. hopefully it will be all good.

i did a little pull from 90-190 just for reference, before the tune was installed. ill try to do it again under the same conditions now after the tune.

Great, that sounds very promising. How is it driving "slow" like around town driving. Has anything changed like being "jerky" Has the initial throttle pick-up changed? Sorry for al the questions but I like a fast car but also one that is ver docile I traffic like the untuned car is.
I have a manual transmission so I want to be able to have a smooth start from stoplights.
One more question, do you still have an OME exhaust?

Thanks,

Henk

Not an answer to your question exactly, but turbocharged cars have the ability to be tuned without hurting driveability.

You don't have to change cams and make the engine more racy at lower rpm's. You can basically keep the engine's characteristics low down as stock, but with added boost (and/or a sharper boost rise via wastegate control) the engine will gain power when it's "on turbo".

yeah, no difference there.

its not that smooth around town going slow anyway if your in M mode. but the tune didn't change that as far as i can tell.

I still don't know what we would do with more power. I floored the gas pedal from 80-100mph and I was getting dsc light flickering. This car already has more power than can be applied through the rear wheels to the tarmac.

I hear you. But what about When the light stops flickering? Thats where the extra power comes in.

That's above 100mph.

Okay now I see the value of the tune. I had the Dinan Stage 2 on the 550i as well and the shape of the power curve was much better.

I can imagine this tune does a similar thing for the M5. It should improve driveability to have more low rpm torque.

Any way to do this without losing powertrain warranty?

Henk

i just did another pull after the tune, from 90 - 190 km/h and timed it (i realize this isn't exactly the most scientific test as i did it with my smartphone, but any-hoo...)

i got an average of 4-5 10th's quicker on the pull with the tune. (6.3-6.4 seconds vs. 6.8-6.9 seconds) i uploaded it to YouTube but when i timed the YouTube version it must be messing with the timing because it made the tuned version slower...???

here's the run with the tune, if anyone wants to see it.

The vendor is telling me this tune is undetectable to BMW and its dealers. Is this true?

yeah. im thinking the majority of the gains of the tune may be from 100 and up. before that it may be a little more aggressive of a throttle curve.

but im only guessing.

still, from 100 and up you're flyin. and that will help in the 1/4 mile.

you just remove the tune before you go in for service. its just a module and a couple wires. its totally plug n play.

well if you leave it on it may be detectable. since there is extra visable hardware in your car. but its pretty well hidden. they would have to be looking for it to see it.

besides, when i go in for service, ill just get my installer to remove it, then reinstall it when i get the car back. only takes 5-20 min.

as far as whether they can tell if there ever WAS a tune installed even after it has been removed? i can t say myself. they tell me it's undetectable...

Wonder if this tune is similar to Hartge's piggyback tune for the F10 M5?

Very interesting. The different approaches to the tune seem to be giving us a least a few options. Undetectable tune - most likely up to the tech that may work on your car and if you just grenaded a major component on your car.

I like this approach. Plug and play. Use it a few times when you need it, but take it off for day to day driving.

Yeah but the disclaimers in their sales material suggest that their word is meaningless (or at least not subject to legal recourse).

yes mines similar only its just plain black, no logo. and then theres the wiring.

the module itself is hidden within the compartment of the windshield wiper mechanism.

then there's a bypass plug they give you, so you can remove the tune module, plug in the bypass plug and you're back to stock.
