Its never not been labeled quality [granted my 335i suspension was basically Koni springs re-badged with "D", my innercooler was a re-badged Spearco unit with "D"]

M3post also has an extensive review of ESS supercharger unit vs the v8 stroker and then another brand, but the consensus was still ESS provided a better product, for less.

I trust their R&D completely and would buy products again, but having seen BMS perform flawlessly both on the 3series platform but also on the f10 platform [550i and M5], or Cobb or ESS...If they don't offer something unique [I like the intakes better than gruppeM], then my learning experience is its better to try other brands that offer just as much quality at better rates... And it legit takes 20 minutes to take off the BMS warranty in-tact.

I agree on quality but even with that you have to perform. Back in the day I couldn't wait to hear how well the strokers were going to perform. As much as I heard the ones who were getting the stroker the less I heard about results.

I was the first M6 to do the BMS and I was targeted for using BMS because he didn't have an actual unit for the M6. I took it upon myself to talk to terry and see if it would work on my car since another customer tried it on his X5M.

As i continued to pursue not only was I bashed at the beginning but how i was gonna mess my car up do to a piggy back. So i didnt listen to the negative comments because i had experienced Terrys products and customer service in the past which was the best I've ever experienced through my years of modding.

Anyway as i set my car up and drove it through its paces, i didn't just talk about how great it was, but I came with Dyno numbers, race videos against the competition and track slips to prove the true power gains and performance.

So here I am with BMS Stage 1 meth integration pushing 670 whp at 6200 rpm in a 5th gear pull which topend limiter cutting power. Lets not forget 6th is the 1:1 gear. So yes I have a beast that I'm pretty sure without the topend limiter kicking in and a 6th gear pull this car is way over 700whp!

So as for you saying you have to pay to play, that's true to an extent. I pay to play but I do research as well to know what's the target I'm looking for and if its worth the investment.

I can say my mods and investment are far superior than any other product out there.

Good luck to all and can't wait to see how the dinan products stack up to the competition!

G

OK so I have the Vbox and I will soon begin testing some acceleration runs. Problem is that I don't have anywhere around here to do it so I have to drive out to my properties for the 1/4 mile time. I might do that tomorrow but not sure.

I'd really love to see some side by side 40 roll pulls. I know he won't dyno it and again those are all very subjective and vary from dyno to dyno... But again the worth may not actually be in the numbers but if they in-fact have better results than BMS just upping the boost.

Went out to Taylor and found a back road to run it up some. OK so this was practice and the AC was on. My best time was with no DSC and shifting myself. I am going to try with MDM the next try, maybe tomorrow. Here was my best quarter mile. Keep in mind, this is a country road, bad traction and it's not flat.

6 0.00 0 0.00 Speed Start
6 10.00 0.73 5.56 Speed Line
6 20.00 1.40 20.26 Speed Line
6 30.00 2.04 43.86 Speed Line
6 40.00 2.79 82.80 Speed Line
6 50.00 3.58 134.74 Speed Line
6 60.00 4.33 195.49 Speed Line
6 70.00 5.27 285.65 Speed Line
6 80.00 6.36 406.20 Speed Line
6 90.00 7.58 558.06 Speed Line
6 100.00 9.03 761.07 Speed Line
6 110.00 10.81 1035.45 Speed Line
6 119.22 12.50 1320.00 Distance End

I definitely need to work on the first sixty feet time. Too much wheel spin. Couple times I couldn't even get it started I burned so much rubber that I had to stop and start over. Feathering the throttle only works to a degree and having DSC on just produces slow times. So I need to try MDM the next time. I was kind of busy learning the Vbox menus so I didn't think enough about the car setup.

How much different does the car feel during normal daily driving with the dinan cold air and piggy back?

Take my words, try putting a pair of toyo R888 & see whether your engine got enough power to spin wheel again? Even if there is should be very minimal. Lol.....

New rear tires made a huge difference. Here are a couple of the Vbox quarter mile results.

Time 14:24 Date 09/07/2014

Accel results
Speed(mph) Time(s)
0-60 03.9
0-100 08.4

Accel Distance results
Distance(ft) Time(s) @Speed(mph)
0-660 07.9 96.3
0-1320 12.0 121.3
0-0 00.0 00.5
0-0 00.0 00.5

Time 13:18 Date 09/07/2014

Accel results
Speed(mph) Time(s)
0-60 04.0
0-100 08.4

Accel Distance results
Distance(ft) Time(s) @Speed(mph)
0-660 08.0 96.9
0-1320 12.1 122.0
0-0 00.0 00.5
0-0 00.0 00.5

I also made a run to 155mph as measured by the Vbox and the speedo said 160mph so I am pretty sure that I was going 163mph at least on the way out but can't verify since I wasn't using the Vbox but the HUD showed 169mph.

Thanks for posting! What traction control mode did you use on the runs? And what were the weather conditions? Did you check the slope of the run?

I used MDM on one and no DSC and shifted myself on the other. The one with MDM is the one at 14:24 and the one I shifted on was at 13:18. I attached the two graphs. The first run was at 9:18 in the morning and the second was an hour later so it was around 75-80F outside. The Vbox is showing GMT and I am in CDT.

Here are the graphs. The first is the MDM run, the second is the run where I used no DSC and shifted myself and the third graph is the extension of that one because I just kept going until I hit 160mph on the speedo which turns out to be 155 according to the GPS. This tells me that I was able to get my car to 163mph on the way out because I saw 169mph on he HUD when I was headed out to Orla on Monday.

Nice! Thanks again for posting the data! I am curious whether Dinan tells you that the D-Tronics needs to adapt over time.

I will take pictures after they are in. I already dropped the car off. I waited up there for four hours last week to get the new rear tires and don't want to hang around there again. Hope that will suit.

I was assuming that the ECU would definitely need it and I suppose it probably will be true of the Dinan module as well. Not sure what to expect when I pick the car up.

What I find interesting is the 155mph data. The car HUD read 160 on the button when I slowed down because that road was getting very wavy at that speed. The other road I went out on felt pretty good but I was right at 6500 in 5th gear and so I just slowed it down. I believe that the car doesn't have a hard limit at 155mph as advertised. Clearly I can get over 160 with my car based on this data. In addition, I recall another poster mentioning that he saw 167 on his speedo and again, subtract 5mph which is the difference I have noted when checking the GPS speed vs speedo report in real time at speeds above 130. The difference is pretty steady around 5mph.

OK, here is my calculation for the speed my car was going based on reported engine rpm in 5th gear. I saw 168 or 169 on the speedo in 5th gear at 6500 rpm read from the HUD which is subject to 100 rpm error so that could be on the high side. The circumference of the stock tire is 7.06 feet and the gear ratio is 3.15 so (7.06*6500/3.15/5280)*60 = 165.5mph. If I put in 6400 then I get 162.7.

I am pretty sure the limiter isn't a hard limit at 155mph, I was told it's some combination of about five different things that the ECU looks at. Anyway, I can't accept that a speedometer reading of 168 or 169 could translate to 155 given all the different measurements I have of GPS speed vs. speedometer reading as well as the RPM to speed calculations based on tire circumference.

Just take the vbox with you next time and see what the GPS speed is saying.

Like I said, I did that on the way back, it says 155 when the speedo said 160, that is the third graph I posted above. When I was on the way out, I looked at my passport speed readout and it showed 161 but like I said in one of the other posts, I looked at it after I looked at the speedo and had already let off the gas.

I will definitely have the vbox on the next time I run it up to 168 on the speedo but the data I already have shows that it's only a difference of 5mph at 160 on the speedo.

I am a bit confused. BMW purposely sets the speedo to read a bit high. Trust your GPS readings as they will be the most accurate.

The passport is GPS an I saw 161 on it after I let off the gas at 168.

My speedo showed 167 mph when my actual GPS speed was 159 mph by 20hz Vbox . It's about a. 5% error on every BMW I've owned . I wouldn't trust the GPS speed on a radar detector to be any where near as precise as a 20hz data logger .
