BarryB and I are planning a drive to the Nurburgring on Sunday 9/2. We think it would be fun to get a group of us, with our recently delivered M5's, and head over on Sunday AM. It is a four hour drive from Munich. If anyone is interested please reply to the thread. I will compile a list of all members who want to go and see if we could get some tickets.

UPDATE: It looks like the Ring Taxi is hosting a motorcycle race this weekend. We are still trying to confirm. We may end up just going to Stuttgart.

Ring taxi tickets are pretty hard to come by however the plan will be to drive up Sun ( maybe go via Stuttgart and see the Porsche or MB museum) and make the pilgrimage to the Ring and at a minimum watch some laps and "buy the T shirt".
Can't wait :-)

Hey guys looks like this plan is not going as planned......
There is a 24hr BICYCLE race on the track that wkd. Not what I would like to see going around the Ring. So maybe the P car museum in Stuttgart may be in order. A nice 2 hr M5 caravan could be fun?

You have to make sure that you see the Mercedes museum as well if you go to Stuttgart. I found it just as good as the Porsche museum.

I think we will be going south to Davos via Liechtenstein. And then drive the Stelvio pass.

I don't expect to hear anything final until August on this. But I wouldn't make any other plans...

Unlikely. Did it 2 years ago. Very well worth it.
Would be hard to get enough miles on the M5 to give it a proper break-in if I hit the ring the day after delivery.

May go later in the week after it's broken in.

We were thinking of going to make the pilgrimage more than drive the track as cannot do that too soon.
So looks like we are back on. Maybe take the long route via the MB museum to get there late afternoon?

I wont be putting my M5 onto the track. I have seen one too many videos on Youtube.

Long route via MB museum sounds good to me!

Trust me, it's a big miss to go to the Ring and not take your car out.

I am planning on going to Das Ring on 9/5 + 9/6 with a fully broken in and break in service completed M5. I am also planning on taking the M5 on the Ring. I have seen many YouTube videos as well, but I have been practicing on Forza 4 almost everyday just to learn the track. I will not be pushing the car at all, I just want to be able to say that I have driven an M5 on the Ring and get it on video.

I'm planning on a long trip down to Italy then through France to get to the Ring with 1,300 miles on the M5 by 9/5. If anyone wants to join me I'd love to have another M5 escort me on this epic trip. Here's my itinerary:

-August 31st - Sept 2nd: Munich
-Sept 2nd - Sept 3rd: Portofino, Italy
-Sept 3rd - Sept 4th: Monaco
-Sept 4th - Sept 5th: Luxembourg City
-Sept 5th - Sept 6th: Nurburging
-Sept 6th - Sept 7th: Munich - Drop off M5 at Drop off point near airport.

I got some pretty good hotel rates as well for my trip.

I may do the Factory Tour when we get back to Munich as we will miss the opportunity if it is closed that weekend.

Anybody doing the Ring without break-in? I probably will keep it under the prescribed break-in rules (which will keep me slow) - but seems like it would be worth it to actually drive the track! I may do the Ring Taxi for a fun ride... but seems to be stupid to have a new M5 and not actually drive it on track... any opinions for those that have been there?

There is no way anyone should get on track without AT LEAST 541km on the car (distance from the Welt to the Track). I figure I won't be driving anywhere near 10/10ths and probably won't do much violence to the break in rules.

We'll be there for public lapping the afternoon of 9/3 (mon). If I see any bits of F10 M5 trim from the 9/2 crowd, I will try to scoop up and mail to you guys.
