Oh and I get the Passenger 57 reference. Elizabeth Hurley is beautiful in that film.
This is why I never got an Imola red interior with my e46 M3 - the thought of resale. And to this day it haunts me - still my biggest car regret. Don't choose a $100k car based on resale - choose it based on what you like best. If its a toss up, then ok go with the black interior, but if not go with your initial gut. There is no doubt my M5 will have Sakhir interior.

And to be honest, I bet the imola red interior on the e46 was in bigger demand than any with black interior since 90% of them probably had black interior a few years back in the secondary market. Exclusivity raises demand, plain black interior is too common - just my 2 cents.

I would like to get anyboody's thoughts on this.
You're in NYC so theres tons of dealerships in the area, call around and dont settle for the Manhattan/Cali markups - theres 4-5 in North Jersey alone not to mention CT. No way anyone should put over $1k deposit on a car.

But if you're really itching to have this, I guess you'd have to weigh the risk of depositing with a dealer that gets a later allocation vs not paying anyone a deposit and having to wait longer because ALL the dealers will have a backlog. The chances of getting your deposit back I'd say are 50/50, possibly yes because they'll probably be able to fill your allocation spot so they won't lose any money, and possibly no because the whole principle of a deposit is to lock you into the purchase, so that's the penalty for backing out. I'd say your best strategy is to talk to the dealer who currently has the fewest number of deposits down to make sure you get the highest possible spot on their allocation. I doubt any dealers will get deliveries substantially later than others.

And if all else fails, patience is a virtue. It seems you're sure you want the car right away despite the likelihood of first model year glitches and having to pay a huge dealer markup, both of which were issues with the M3 -- but not having to deal with either of those might be nice too. I know I'm happy I got mine after all of the options were available and (apparently) the major kinks had been worked out.
The deposits I've had down before to hold a spot (M3, Range, RS4, and C63) were all contingent on me ordering the car. I got it in writing that until I picked a color and the car was in production, I was entitled to a full refund. I ended up getting the M3, Range Rover Sport and C63, but my RS4 deposit was refunded, no questions asked.

I gotta learn how to multi quote things instead of replying to every message as I read - but I agree with you, this Azurite is pretty sweet. The blue undertones are nice and in the dark its a deep deep black

Multi-quoting is accomplished by making sure you're logged in first, then clicking the M" button on each post you want to quote, then clicking Quote on any one of them.

I keep going back and forth. I like the Silver, Sapphire black and the Singapore. I had a silver 335i until recently, very easy to take care of, looked great. I've had several black BMW in the past, BMW look great in black as well.

When I first saw the pictures on F30post of the Singapore Grey I was sure that was going to be the one. What has complicated the decision is my Porsche. I bought a 991 Agate grey with black interior and while the car drives great, I'm not in love with the color. It isn't as dark as Singapore appears to be, seems more lifeless, but I have not seen SG in person.
Silver seems like a safe bet, so does black. The shots of the SG with sakhir really looked great....so tough, so tough.....lol

^^This. I could have had a white/full sakhir car, but thought I'd tire of the interior after a short while.

Fyi Silverstone is definitely NOT a normal silver in person; it has a very pronounced green/blue tinge in the sunlight. I quite like how dynamic it is since I think normal silver is a little too bland/common, and I think Silverstone would look great on a car like the M5, but if you're imagining something like TiAg, it won't look like that.

Check the Official E90 M3 Silverstone thread. The posts starting at #7 will give you an idea of how much the color can change based on lighting; the ones before #7 have all been seriously Photoshopped: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110972.

Thank you so much for the link. I remember seeing a M3 sedan in that color, or something very similar and thought how stunning it looked.

It really does take on many different looks depending on the lighting and the camera settings. The M5 in silverstone is the same:

I like moonstone and singapore with black interior. I don't understand the love for the sakhir interior. I think its cheesy, but buy what you want.

The ceramic breaks are gold not blue. Standard breaks are blue. This changes things.

Honestly going for an $8700 brake option for different color calipers would be beyond insane, IMHO. I posted about this at length in another thread, but the only benefits of carbon ceramics are lack of brake dust, far longer pad and rotor life (unless a rotor is even slightly nicked), far higher fade resistance, and a modest weight reduction. They do NOT reduce stopping distance (except compared to steel brakes that have already faded, but otherwise the limiting factor for stopping distance is tires, not brakes). The last 2 benefits only apply on a track, so if you won't be tracking your M5 a lot, then is that $8700 really worth it to you for the other two plus aesthetics?

And to expand on the rotor being slightly nicked, they're sufficiently fragile that if you do go to the track and kick up a piece of debris on an off-track excursion that nicks your rotor, or a rotor gets nicked while removing a wheel, you'll need to replace it and possibly the rotor on the other side of that axle. Part costs haven't been announced, but on the Porsche side a single carbon ceramic rotor is $4K, which is why even some track people have switched back to steel.

ceramic brakes are useless unless you track the car all the time.. longer pad and rotor life, but what do you care when brakes are under warranty

You can go with Silverstone. That's a LOT lighter and has a substantial amount of blue in it. If you just want a lighter gray, that's Space Gray.

+1. Silverstone has a lot of life to it depending on the lighting. In very sunny bright days it looks more silver and on darker days it gets more blue/green. Definitely more interesting a color than regular silver

tbh the "best" colour is changeable depending on your requirements. Do you want stealth or not? what is the overall look you're after?
