Drive a 328 for 2 weeks and....

Loaner car from bimmer was a 328i and i will begin by saying the 3 series is an all around good car, note i said good; and, i am quite appreciative that bmw loaned me a 3 series rather than a buick skylark or the like. But to finish my sentence beginning:
Drive a 328 for 2 weeks and.... Realize how unbelievably lucky i am to drive the Monster, the finest 4 wheel twin turbo charged, well appointed, visually stimulating, euro designed, 4 biz-ness man ass hauling ultimate driving machine. It's just night and day, my M vs the loaner. Lately i have thought that moving to the mountains, buying a fuel efficient low cost car, and changing my lifestyle might be the way to go.... Then i woke my mentally deranged butt up and said Hell No! I need vulgar amounts of torque, a finely hand stitched leather dash, b & o sound, massive calipers, the joy of sliding this beeeeatch sideways through the curves, accelerating blindingly fast on highway entrance, etc....
anyhow, 26k miles on this beast and love every single minute i crank her up. Hope all you folks feel the same.
Side note: she had a leak in the master seal and part was delayed from the mother land, thus the 2 week wait, but i think the wait just made my adrenaline grow stronger
have a happy 4th fellow M men, God Bless America! and Many thanks to those who serve and have served to protect our freedom.

Awesome! I felt the same way the day I test drove the F80 M3. LOL!!!

I also hate when parts take a long time to arrive from the Motherland or is it the Fatherland. I dunno about these things.

I was thinking same thing 1st week when I was in a 328i loaner.
Then 3rd week, I couldn't handle it so ask my SA to replace it with 528i. The car was too heavy for the engine so as this bing my 4th week without the monster, I asked them to replace with 428i. And it's def better than 328i or 528i but now I'm just very stressed out that I can't drive proper M car for a month while making the monster payment...

From the day one, my auto stop/start didn't work (it stops properly but starts right back on by itself within 1 sec)

I don't use this function much but the same time, I don't want to have brand new car (purchased in May 3rd) that doesn't work perfectly. so I took it to dealership thinking it's simple issue:

6/3-6/5 (1st visit) Dealer claimed it's fixed from battery recharge. But still not working.

6/9- ongoing.
1. re-flashed whole car - dealership with approval from BMW NA
2. changed switch unit - BMW sent their field engineer's
3. negative battery cable - BMW NA
4. battery replacement - BMW NA
5. ignition unit replacement - BMW NA (I think BMW Germany is going to be involved now one)

I'm waiting on the ignition unit to arrive and really stressed out that I have no ride to release my stress/enjoy.

Just made 1k and did break in service but never had chance to push this monster even though I'm still making the monster payment.

You need to call BMWNA and ask for compensation since your car is in service department for long time!

My issue has been escalated to BMW executive customer care in customer relation and services which is the highest office of their customer service.

They're now reviewing my issue with BMW Regional Management Team.
So I'm waiting to here back from them at the moment (7-10 business days...)

I don't think buyback is not going to be any issue but I like exact color combinations and options of my M (and has only 1k miles) so I really hope to get my exact car back (not to mention window tint, pedal, black front, side grills, color matched reflectors, hardwire V1 etc. of money + time consuming stuff to deal with all over again).

hahahha - read my mind. i was thinking the same thing when I picked up the 328i loaner i have now...picked it up a couple days ago and the 3 series has certainly come a really long way...but i can't wait to get my car back. its kinda ridiculous.

i've had it for one week in the US and a total of 3 weeks - 2 weeks at ED. all i've done in the past several months is wait for this car!!! the front bumper got damaged in transport at re-delivery (read whatever you'd like into that), so they are having it replaced.

I'm really surprised that they loaner they give people is a "base" model 3 series.

I'd expect at least a 528 or something.

I drove 328, 528 and 428 back to back for past almost a month of time.
In my opinion, 528 is just too heavy for the 28i engine so I personally prefer 328 or 428 as they have something M5 doesn't have: small and light. So I actually liked driving 328i over 528i (almost same interior as our M5 and its just damn too slow and makes me angry). But with 328i, I redline it and toss around.

Isugoo - did your auto stop/start work at all? Mine seems to only work intermittently, say 20 percent of the time. I hate to bring it in for service but I'm right behind you.

If your dealer is Irvine BMW, last time I got a 328d with M Sport package! it's the best loaner car they have lol. try it at least you have M steering wheel and if set it to sport+ with DTC off , it move a little
And I agree with you, 528 is too slow and lazy

Nope. they're going to replace ignition computer module which is ordered from Germany and has to be program specific to my car according to dealer.
So I just picked up my car yesterday (after 3.5 weeks) to drive till part comes in.

I should try 328d. As my brand new M5 was in the shop straight 3.5 weeks, loaner dept is treating me very well so I usually get the best one they have (if not, they call me next day when replacement is ready).

I always ask for 3 series
Last time gave me 550i GT that i had never tried so i didnt mind and was a nice ride for my wife as I couldn't tolerate how soft and luxury oriented it was but wife loved it and we took it to the mountains for 1 day 500 miles back and forth which I don't mind saving on my M5 which was sick with Squeakosis - But out of all cars loved the diesel 3 series!! I don't think they will ever loan us an M3 or so - But love my dealership so far Hendrick BMW in Charlotte especially service department (Luca and Chris Blocker doing such a great job) though I don't care for buying a car from them as over priced and no room to negotiate but that means they can sell their cars for whatever they want - But got 2 X5's from them within the last 2 years -

They don't offer them anymore because of high cost in case of accident... hell people crash the loaner cars and I have seen the loaner cars have been in accident! Crevier does not have 335 loaner car too for the same reason, however they have 535 (or at least they had)
