The $8k Akra is a full system isn't it? I don't think this m performance exhaust will be $10k. Probably in the $5k range.

Just shows how pathetic BMW really is. AMG cars sound amazing stock. The M3 I have sounded pathetic so I had to shell out more $$$ for a decent sounding exhaust. The ///M name is the top of the line as far as BMW goes and they still cant turn out a stock car that is "top of the line", you have to pay extra for that.......

I am walking away from the Apple scam and everyone should walk away from BMW selling you an Akra exhaust on a Mcar that you just paid $100k that should have had the exhaust from the start.

Its laughable...
Exactly!!!!

AMG sounds amazing stock so should BMW!

If you bought an M car everything should already come stock you shouldn't be able to buy upgrades from BMW

I hope they put the extra money generated by this nonsense towards a proper halo car (M1-esque) no doubt though that will be offered after market M performance parts too.

1: BMW and other manufacturers use vendors/suppliers for lot's of parts. The stock exhaust system is probably made by Bosal or someone else (so not a "BMW" exhaust).

2: The stock M5 has to cater for a very diversified customer group. The stock exhaust (even though it might be on the conservative side) has to adhere to those needs. People willing to buy a sports exhaust is a very small percentage of the M5 owners. Those owners are also willing to accept more interior noise etc.

3: Instead of seeing all of this aftermarket business in the hands of outside companies, BMW wants to have a slice of that cake (after all they are a private company that first and foremost needs to make money to exist). It's not like BMW makes the M cars out of altruism...

4: No one HAS to buy the exhaust system. Why not just applaud BMW for making the effort to supply a ///M exhaust. After all if it's ok for other suppliers to charge money for upgrades, why isn't it ok when BMW steps into the same market?

BTW. The AC Schnitzer exhausts are made by REMUS...

I think that some of the stuff being done right now is taking away from the true BMW/ European car feel and enthusiast and moving in the direction of the early days of "Super Street" & "Import Tuner". Just plain bad. Just my opinion
Like everyone else, I took the time to magnify the image and notice the Akra stamp on the muffler. So you're right, BUT as vvv Phil335 said I assure you someone will try this to see if there's any sound difference between the E9X Akra system and the mufflers for F10 M5. I agree as well some things done are tacky, but to each is own, as long as I don't follow suit I'm good.

It's pretty funny how Mercedes don't need any help making their own beastly performance exhausts for their AMG cars and they sound awesome while BMW needs to co-operate with an aftermarket performance exhaust manufacturer to get the job done

I like the new exhaust and the way it sounds But I still believe that it should have been offered from the start, not two years later, and you'll have to pay for it too..

P.s. On paper a turbo should dampen the rumble noise of the V8 (like the F10 M5), but in the case of the 5.5L V8 TT E63 AMG it just doesn't! how were Mercedes AMG able to get that amazing exhaust noise from a twin-turbo engine? Both the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 E63 AMG and the 5.5L V8 twin-turbo AMG sound very similar and you can hear the V8 rumble on both cars too.. it's like the 5.5L V8 TT is just another naturally aspirated V8.

Only thing I admire about these AMG is just their exhaust note! But too bad that's not enough to convince to buy one.. I wish BMW M cars had a distinctive exhaust note like that..

Oh Puhleeeze...If this exhaust came standard on the M5, half the people here would still buy an aftermarket system to attempt to differentiate their car. It's just that you feel entitled to any LCI upgrades or anything new gratis. And what really digs at you is that the BMW exhaust will have little M badges on the exhaust tips, and you WANT THAT. And face it, if they introduced a La Cucaracha horn, you'd want that too.

Sounds good but nothing special in the broader sense of cars at this price range.

With AMG - most people just leave it stock since Benz got the exhaust sound right from factory.

It IS a Akra muffler. you can actually see the Akra stamped logo (on the pics) and the part # is almost identical to Akra part # system.

You can also BMW part # as well. At least that's what it appears to be.

I agree. It's an M5, and this exhaust IMO should totally be stock.
BTW, I thought Apple released a new device every year, why do you say 6 months Did I miss any Apple new product release Unless you mean the 4th gen iPad, which was more like an update.

No one disagrees that BMW want to make money, that some people will modify their cars, or that exhaust notes won't suit everyone.

But it still seems daft that a titanium or future carbon exhaust is not standard (or at the very least a factory list option) on a TOP of the range M car. I thought the idea was that BMW was trying to save weight ( eg carbon roof on M4) so why not just do this as standard.

Even if they won't do it why call it M performance as that is now associated with the sub M brand range toppers. Why not call it M Racing or something

Wish the car had those stock. Sure as hell not going to buy it, I'd rather do a Turner Muffler delete. But a nice option, even if it's essentially an Akra with different tips. Akra did put their exhaust on the 1M Pace car and M5 pace car anyways. I somehow sensed Akra was going to produce these exhausts and now they've come to fruition!

Agree! I can't believe how close I came to buying A CLS63 just for that beautiful sound. I believe the M5's unique sound is due to the exhaust manifold configuration into the turbos, which was designed to minimize leg time.
