Passed on the M5 for the CLS 63 this time
Hey Guys,
i was really excited to know that i was the first on the list for the new M5 (btw the car is in the showroom now), but something about the CLS 63 excited me more and so i passed on the opportunity. It was a tough choice too because both of them were available in the colors i wanted them in I prefer a more raw feeling to the car which is why i opted for the CLS 63 this time. This is my first AMG car as i have always been a big fan of the M's. The car is actually very different to my last E60 M5. The M5 was great and i lovely revving it but the CLS 63 has the exhaust tone even when you are not flooring it and is very very fast A negative note - the interior of the 3 series, 5 series and 7 series is nearly identical and the new M5 is therefore very boring as i don't think i am sitting in something different when i get into it or any other BMW at home. Even the exteriors are very similar and i personally like to know i am sitting in something different other than when i floor the cars Here are a few pics |

Beautiful....what are your driving impressions.? I am in the same dilemma, as I currently have an M3 convertible. Lease ends in 5 months, and for me, its a toss up between the M5 and the CLS 63. I am likely leaning toward the AMG car, as the styling is just awesome, and the performance legendary. Love to get your thoughts

Great buy. But that M5 would've been a beast as well.

You've nailed it with your point about how the M5's interior doesn't look all that special compared to the rest of the BMW line, while the CLS 63's interior is really exceptional (particularly with the optional carbon fiber). Many of us are in the same position of choosing between a CLS 63 and the new M5 and BMW's stark interior design philosophy starts to annoy me when I'm at the $99,000 plus price point.
BTW, you're not actually tooling around Oman blasting Tyrese and Ludacris "Coming to See You" are you? Last edited by SleepTight; 11-26-2011 at 10:03 AM.. |

Nice car.. Yellow plates are the best. LOL
You feel the 3 - 5 and 7 have similar interior? So do the MB's. C - E - S and CLS classes do have similar interior as well. But i will agree with you on the point about the CLS having a deep exhaust tone when not being floored when compared to M5.

Honestly..... I think you made the right choice. Though I would kill for an M5, if given the choiceI too would opt for the CLS63. Congrats on a gorgeous car, and amazing group of cars you got there.

Wow.
I love the IWC interior clock as well. (Though I will never buy an IWC watch again, owned 6 of them in the last few decades, all sold) Get rid of that Scuderia, and buy a 458.j/k |

The new CLS lines are a huge improvement over the last generation.
Great aggressive front end. Improved "coupe" shape, etc. I'm happy for the OP for branching out with Mercedes' latest beauty. However, the AMG interior looks so much more traditional and old school. I can't get over the "bar of used soap" look from the inside. Walnut trim? Really? Automatic transmission?... the list goes on. That's not a performance car. It's a powerful luxury car. There's a difference. .

Want to see the CLS63 interior in black with the optional carbon fiber? I'm not likely to buy the CLS 63 over the new M5, but I sure wish BMW would try for something a little more special with the M5 interior. |

Whoa. That's nice. I stand corrected on the interior. Now just add a clutch and a proper manual gearbox and we'll be all set. .
