Comp Package vs Dinan - Exhaust and tune

Hi everyone - New to the forum, but not to Bimmers. Had E36 and E46 M3s back in the days and loved them. Am currently driving an S7, but looking to make the switch to an M5 or M6. I know I definitely want the Competition package on whatever car I choose. I'm looking at a few and have a couple questions.

1. How would you compare the competition package exhaust vs Dinan exhaust? A few of the cars I'm looking at some Dinan mods, so I'm trying to understand if the Dinan exhaust would be considered an improvement in terms of both sound and performance.

2. My hypothesis is that the real value on the comp package is the suspension / steering improvements to make it feel more like previous generation M5s. There are a few M5s I'm looking at the don't have the comp package, but have Dinan stage 1 or 2 tunes. While it would give me more straight line power, it would still have the softer feel of a non-CP car, right? Just want to make sure as if that's the case, I'll prioritize CP over anything, including aggressive tunes.

Thanks!

i'll give ya a lil more detail'd answer here..

Comp vs non Comp what the guys are basically say'n is it ain't no biggie , w a couple few modds you can achieve as good if not better handling characteristics than a comp car ..

springs , sway bars , struts etcc

my 1st m5 was non comp brand new 13 and this one a brand new 16 has comp.. for me i wanted to try it and why not.. i have also on my 16 comp car have added sways and springs for even xtra action..

biggest thing for me w the Comp pkg that i saw was the rear diff , if there is something that'll get power to the ground a lil better then i want it !

point of story if you find a non comp car and its got what you want go for it , either way you wont be disappointed. F10 has 3 diff susp modes and altho she's a yacht in the sprot + mode it locks dwn pretty tight , tighter than most people would actually enjoy on day to day drives!

g luck

Thanks for the detailed response, LI. Had a hard time reading through the other two What about steering? I read that steering is more direct and responsive with the comp package.

Will be interested to read others perspectives, especially the CP supporters!

Also, anyone have an opinion on the Dinan exhaust vs CP exhaust?

Dinan exhaust is not worth doing unless you go catless.

CP is worthwhile if you get a good price on it, otherwise go non-cp and modify with sway bars, springs, and Tune. Steering and differential are only marginal improvements in my opinion.

Make sure to get one with LCI headlights (they are round with squared bottom).

How much modding are you willing to do?

I probably will keep modding at a minimum (exhaust, intake, tune). Back when I was younger, I used to do a ton. That's why I liked the idea of a few cars that already had Dinan mods as I could get them as is and never mess with again.

On the exhaust, not looking at the value of it (given the cars I'm looking at already have them), just a pure comparison of the CP exhaust vs Dinan exhaust. Is one louder, better performing than the other?

Oh, and I'm only looking at 14-16, so all should be LCI.

Sounds like OP should just get a CP and call it a day; do exhaust if you dont like CP note.

Buy CP, get Eisenmann Sport, tune (BPM, Bootmod3, Mission, or DME), and downpipes

Done!

As far as Dinan is concerned, use them only for suspension parts....

Dinan the company doesn’t do engine builds - it’s done by Steve’s new business SDAutotech
