1,200 Mile Service

Just completed this afternoon, haven't picked her up yet.

Looking forward to seeing if I notice any changes...or none at all...or if I just drive it much harder than before.

No mate, could've had service pack for £1000, or pay as you go.

Free service here in the US- I think 4 years and 40k+ miles..though not exactly certain on the mileage.

It's nice not having to worry about going over 5,500 RPM (though I did 1x/2x by accident. I'm ready to run this one ragged now....full on race car mode.

UK Service rates

The 1200 mile service costs around £330.00 (at least that's what it was from my local Cooper BMW dealership)

I bought the Service Pack, which effectively cost £670.00. but then you are locked in to servicing according to the service indicator i.e no early 'conscience' oil changes.

There's no reason your car will feel any different as the 1200 service is just engine and diff oil and a filter change. The car uses a different grade of oil during the first 1200 miles

I'm a bit concerned about my 1200 running in service, doesn't appear the oil has been changed.

Total cost was £173.84, parts £28.87 and labour £116.00, both + vat.

Parts are Filt. Elemen £19.79
and screw plug £4.54

So am I right to be concerned they haven't done the service correctly?
Sorry for dumbness.

oil change

The oil change is what the 1200 mile service is all about. I'm guessing it flushes out any microscopic metal particles and changes the engine oil viscosity to take care of the extra heat developed at high revs. I would guess the diff oil change is just about cleanliness of the oil.

I would check with your dealer that the oil was changed, as I was billed for the oil separately.

I can't! But just by the price and not listed on my invoice.

Should the oil and/or diff oil be changed? I guess I should ask them, but just after some info so they can't fob me off. Thanks in advance.

That Oil change is the whole point of the service, can't see them not changing it TBH.

Ok, thanks for your reply, I think I'll check for peace of mind.

It's just the guy on the desk kept calling it a health check, and that all was well, and it was half price from what I was expecting, and no oils listed on the invoice.
