Do Sport Displays Actually Measure Power?

The Sport Displays seem like a good addition, but do they actually measure HP and TQ?

Or do they simply have the standard HP/TQ figures programmed for this car and then estimate based on throttle position and RPM?

I would assume the latter. Perhaps a bit more to the algorithm than that, but certainly not a real time measurement.

I was told by my mechanic that the gauges are similar in logic to the active sound software. In essence they are based on the rpm's and throttle measurement. If you put a tune on the car nothing will change in the gauge which he provided evidence of after equipping a car with stage 2 Dinan software, exhaust and intake. It's a cute little display to impress your passengers and nothing more. I do however find that showing the actual HP figure was most intriguing, similar to that in the m4 and m3 displays showing 474 hp.

That's what I thought. Thank you.

It doesn't even take into account CP since the HP maxes out at 560.

Furthermore, if you believe all the dyno testing, both versions of the S63Tu are putting out more like 600HP - so the "gages" are even further off. LIke stated, they're just for fun.

In agreement, the gauges are more for amusement versus actual performance. I've found it beats looking at the Nav or Sirius screens - especially for passengers.

The gauges on my 2015 show max of 640HP for Power, and 560lb-ft for Torque and do go over the advertised 560HP and 500lb-ft when driven in "spirited mode" by my right foot - so they may be closer to actuals than aforementioned in above posts.

Great to hear. I can't wait. Just called in. My 2015 entered paint. Still looking at mid-April delivery.
