Back in 2002/3, when there was a long waiting list for them, some BMW dealers were buying back lightly used E53 X5s, E46 M3s, etc. from customers. These cars were then marketed for more than the MRSP for the equivalent spec new car. In fact, you could lose more in monetary terms on a car costing a quarter of the price back then. Other dealers were saying that this behaviour could be detrimental to those dealership if BMW GB were to find out as it was strictly forbidden. As you know, that 'bubble' has very much burst since BMW has aggressively targeted market share in the UK. Let's face it, even the niche models BMWs have pretty average residuals in UK now. The only exceptions being the i3 & the 'sold out' i8, but I would still expect the treatment @bobblehead has stated previously if dealers were caught marketing these with mark up in UK. It looks like this is some sort of exception or they're trying to build artificial demand or satisfy some sort of quota. I was at this same dealership in Jan for a lease return and they were practically begging me to take one of their zcp m5's (~115k). Even their GM came out to greet me (rather impressed actually). And none of their M5's had the cali over msrp sales disclosure.
