Are you replacing all/any worn hoses and wires while it's all exposed?

The more detailed your pictures of the engine, the more afraid I become! I hope they are slow and methodical with the assembly. Have they done other S63TU engines in their shop, or are you the first? With some of that, I wonder if they'd have to pull the engine again to reroute a mistake? Looking forward to the finished product though!

This is only half joking, have you looked into a parachute for high speed runs you might do? The brakes are good, but poster finance nick mentioned heavy fade on a run........? Nice to have a back up.

If hoses/belts are damaged/worn I am replacing them. There are some coolant hoses that are being replaced along with a few belts. Plus misc single-use nuts/bolts etc. Anything that requires the motor to be pulled to replace is being replaced now. Ex. new water pump. Other stuff can be repaired if needed.

I expect to pull the motor out again in the next 12-18 months anyways...

Yes - this is not their first rodeo on the s63tu. There is another one in the shop right now having the motor built (buddy of mine... but not very active on the forums). It's actually not that bad but need to be meticulous not to accidentally cut a wire or something as those gremlins are a PITA to fix. I gave the car with ZERO codes and running well, so expect everything to be the same assuming correct install.
The electrical harnesses (as complicated as they may look) are very systematically put together.

All the plugs into the DME (except the middle one) are harnesses completely isolated to the motor (on both sides). Ignition, Fuel, Misc and then the chassis harness.

When I restored this car originally from the meth fire, we had to actually splice the entire chassis harness (now that was more intense...)
Even in the minor disassembly I've done, I've been very impressed with the electrical connections that BMW uses. Very secure, water proof, and there aren't connections that can be mistaken for another that is close by.

Splicing is probably preferable to spending four figures for a complete new harness?!

The picture doesn't do justice, but the entire pass-side harness was melted including the battery cable that goes from the engine-bay to the trunk. The driver-side had thermal damage as well.
Did you say methanol fire ?

This concept is already running on Pure's own M6 and making gobs of power on a stock motor.

Right now everything is getting ceramic coated and will be back in the car around 2 weeks!

Yes.. stock air-box. I will dyno with and without the box to finally put the intake wars to rest

OMG I'm so excited to hear this thing crank up for the first time. You should do a vlog or something. Pictures are still great keep them coming.

Once buttoned up it will be on idle until warmed up, then a short 'tender' test drive and then some pulls with load to seat the rings. Appears Steve Dinan wants to do that part himself.

Will be picking up the car tomorrow.

On a side note they had already dismantled the motor that was in the car (when I brought it in). This engine had at most a flash tune and modded for at most 4-5K miles at that. The rod and crank bearings had a reasonable amount of wear. This has proven again to be another weakness in this motor and that gets accelerated with higher power and infrequent oil changes. Just a word of caution for everyone pushing this platform. It will give at some point... so be prepared.
Exciting days to come!

BTW, how many miles on the original motor in the car?

idk I mean you have no idea how it was treated those first 40k miles right? Was it taken care of? Was it warmed up before use/ abuse? Oil changed at that crazy 12k+ bmw interval or sooner? Is this just an anomaly or outlier...

Mine was boosted with the JB4 for 15k miles I saw no detrimental effects...

I assume it went through normal BMW oil changes (7-8K, not 12K...!). The engine ran fine and felt very strong. My point is that the bearings show unusual wear even under relatively normal operation. Did you take your rod bearings apart after 15K? How do you know their condition?

There is another motor which was taken apart at 11K (this motor was a highly boosted setup)... bearings looked horrible and that's with oil changes every 2-3K.

A question out of curiosity. Has anyone mentioned if the stock intercoolers have enough thermal capacity for those larger turbos? I have not attempted any measurements to determine the efficiency but I'm wondering if you might be leaving some power on the table with the stock ones.

Did several partial and full load pulls from 3-5K... cool down and repeat. After oil change motor is pretty much ready to rock and roll!
