This is only half joking, have you looked into a parachute for high speed runs you might do? The brakes are good, but poster finance nick mentioned heavy fade on a run........? Nice to have a back up. |

If hoses/belts are damaged/worn I am replacing them. There are some coolant hoses that are being replaced along with a few belts. Plus misc single-use nuts/bolts etc. Anything that requires the motor to be pulled to replace is being replaced now. Ex. new water pump. Other stuff can be repaired if needed.
I expect to pull the motor out again in the next 12-18 months anyways... Yes - this is not their first rodeo on the s63tu. There is another one in the shop right now having the motor built (buddy of mine... but not very active on the forums). It's actually not that bad but need to be meticulous not to accidentally cut a wire or something as those gremlins are a PITA to fix. I gave the car with ZERO codes and running well, so expect everything to be the same assuming correct install. The electrical harnesses (as complicated as they may look) are very systematically put together. All the plugs into the DME (except the middle one) are harnesses completely isolated to the motor (on both sides). Ignition, Fuel, Misc and then the chassis harness. Splicing is probably preferable to spending four figures for a complete new harness?! |

OMG I'm so excited to hear this thing crank up for the first time. You should do a vlog or something. Pictures are still great keep them coming.

I assume it went through normal BMW oil changes (7-8K, not 12K...!). The engine ran fine and felt very strong. My point is that the bearings show unusual wear even under relatively normal operation. Did you take your rod bearings apart after 15K? How do you know their condition?
There is another motor which was taken apart at 11K (this motor was a highly boosted setup)... bearings looked horrible and that's with oil changes every 2-3K. |

A question out of curiosity. Has anyone mentioned if the stock intercoolers have enough thermal capacity for those larger turbos? I have not attempted any measurements to determine the efficiency but I'm wondering if you might be leaving some power on the table with the stock ones.
