Just received my Challenge rear diffuser. I can report that it does indeed work with comfort access. I have to call Nate concerning fitment on the stock bumper, but the craftsmanship is excellent. IND is superb.

Correction. Comfort access does NOT work with this mod. Not sure why it did when I taped it over the existing plate to test. But hasn't worked since the install today. However, it looks so DAMN GOOD I may not miss it. Will provide pics after my track event.

Took me 20 min. Removal of three screws and four pins. This is what was always missing at the rear.

Uh oh. That would be a deal breaker for me.

@nate@ind - is this true or is it user error?

I'd have love to test it and maybe try to make it work but somehow @Nate@IND forgot about me
It's a shame no one has been able to produce a CF diffusor which actually works with CF
Probably one of the reasons BMW hasn't released one either, they do have a plastic one for the F30 which is using the same system for the trunk comfort access

What kind of sensor is CA using ? Why can't you make it with a small window where the sensor is ?

Unfortunately not that easy
The comfort access system for the trunk is controlled by two sensor which detect the (foot) movement via a capacitive measurement.
One sensor is located in the upper part of the rear bumper and the other one is located underneath the rear trunk area
The two sensors are connected the evaluation electronics and constantly measure the capacity.
The operation is effected by means of targeted foot movement to and from the bumper.
A comparison of the time characteristics of the measured capacities permits the identification of a certain movement pattern.
I've tried to relocate sensors etc with the 3D diffusor but no luck.
Hope is/was the RKP diffusor is thin enough to not affect the capacity field.
The 3D diffusor is fairly thick (it also seems to have GFK built in) which will render the capacity field non-functional.
If you've ever seen the BMW M Performance Carbon Fiber rear diffusor insert for the E9x you would notice how thin the piece is (literally paper thin/light) .
Until someone comes up with a very thin diffusor insert I don't think there's much hope for CF to work at all
As a side note it would be interesting (from a study perspective) to see how the CF diffusor is built for the M6 GC and if there have been any changes to the trunk comfort access system

Oddly, this one from Challenge is seeming like "paper thin" but guess its still too thick in terms of allowing that capacitive difference through.

At the moment the only aftermarket diffuser that works with comfort access is the RKP brand.

Nate - isn't the RKP piece just the outer part? It doesn't replace the centerpiece.

Is there a diffuser centerpiece (like Challenge) which can be paired with the OEM surround but still support comfort access?

Correct RKP is the outer section only and does not replace the center plastic section. At the moment there is not a center section that works with comfort access.
