Failed iDrive and Sound from Stereo

I unfortunately have to report another issue with my M5. This morning I woke to a failed iDrive, no buttons working, and no sound from the stereo or any other vehicle functions using sound. I am waiting for my service manager to tell me the results of their diagnostic. I am hoping its a quick fix/glitch. Three issues now in less than 1800 miles. Seems like a lemon law issue to me.

I think you have to have the same issue 3 times... and it varies from state to state.

In Ohio if your car has three issues while in warranty it is deemed a lemon. This is a vague statement so I have to get more clarification.

EDIT: I stand corrected. It has to be three of the same issues. Still trying to determine my options

Fuse?

It's a little startling how many folks are shouting lemon law for this car.

I've had random issues too, it's a hassle but covered under warranty. I love my M5 and don't want to get rid of it!!

So the service manager told me they were not able to determine what caused this issue. They did a hard reset on the entire car and everything worked fine. He also said he cannot guarantee the vehicle wont exhibit the same problem again since they were not able to find any issues.

My CA has started the process to request BMWNA provide me a new vehicle.

I had a body control module go a little crazy, but resolved very quickly at the dealers. A car is a sophisticated piece of equipment, they all go wild, if you haven't had any issues consider yourself to be lucky, you are the exception, not the rule. A friend of mine took A risk and purchased a Lexus that needed work.... Dealer told him he needed more than 10 computers/modules replaced.... It happens to all cars not just bimmers. Wouldn't give my m5 up for anything. hopefully this was just a one time thing. I can definitely sympathize with you in situations like this.

Mark.

With iPhone 5 plugged in, I had a the iDrive/stereo reboot fully for no apparent reason. B&O speaker sunk, black screen, no sound. About a minute later, all was back on line and normal. Issue has not recurred....

I continue to have frequent "connection stability" problems with iPhone 5 and BMW Apps. Frequently, I need to cycle the power on the iPhone to get the car to recognize MOG / Pandora / BMWConnected. Minor hassle that I assume will be addressed via firmware eventually.....

My intent is to not have a M5 but rather a stable one. These "gremlins" which are showing up dont strengthen my confidence in this particular vehicle. Both the service manager and my CA agree that the car should be replaced.

Wow, really? That's amazing. If they'll give you a new car, then go for it!

All they can do is submit the paperwork to BMWNA. At the end of the day its BMWNA's decision. While I dont think it will be as simple as it sounds I am going to push BMWNA aggressively and exhaust all my options.

I am in Sales, myself, and know how I treat my customers. I expect the same when I am the customer.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I'd be irritated as well. Hopefully BMWNA does the right thing. Good luck!

In the end it will work out either way. Its not going to stop me from enjoying the car. These are good problems to have. I feel fortunate enough to be able to afford a car like the M5.
