I know they aren't very visible, but it would look better with some stainless button head bolts holding those cutout valves in place for when curious mechanical types like me stick their head on the ground to see what you've done. I like everything else about the project though.

Great suggestion! I like it a lot, I think I will change those bolts out to something a little nicer. Also, my m5 is lowered quite a bit on Dinan adjustable coil overs so it makes it even more difficult to see. I love your idea though! Consider it done!

What's not so different is catless downpipes like many of you.

Then I decided to do something I don't see often. I installed (TIG welded) electronic exhaust cutouts (dumps) before the stock mufflers controlled wirelessly.

I originally did a muffler delete and I could NOT handle the drone. It was brutal. Maybe it was partially the active sound being pumped through the speakers... Which I've since turned off. Bottom line, I was not happy with the muffler delete. I did love the tips from Fabspeed though. I also have to admit the sound from the muffler delete was not what I was looking for... Pretty much terrible IMO.

So... I removed the cats, reinstalled the original mufflers and TIG welded the dumps in. Basically zero drone now especially with the valves shut, and I couldn't be happier.

Now I don't have to be "that guy" when I pick the kids up from school or drive by the police. I just close the valves and it quiets down. Not entirely quiet of course; I'm still catless but it runs through the original mufflers when the valves are closed.

And because I loved the Fabspeed tips so much I cut them off the muffler delete and TIG welded them onto the original mufflers.

I'll try and post the pics and videos:

I used QTP (quick time performance) low profile valves with the wireless option.

After having done catless downpipes myself, that alone added a little drone. I bought all the piping to do my own muffler delete, but I'm worried I'd be in the same boat as you. I've looked into doing electronic dumps like that as well, did some Google searches about pros and cons, brands that have higher success rates, BS warranty issues, etc. What brand did you end up going with? I'm suprised you put them that far back vs doing them before x-pipe.

The brand I went with was QTP (Quick Time Performance) with wireless. So far, so good. No issues or problems.

As for the location...yes, that was a greatly debated topic. I decided to put them in the rear before the mufflers for 2 major reasons:

1. The smell. I knew I would be running them open 90% of the time. In traffic, or any stop and go situation I didn't want the exhaust to be right underneath me and any passengers. As I'm sure you know the smell with catless can be a bit much sometimes.

2. Drone. I wanted to minimize drone as much as possible and have a very comfortable highway ride (which I currently do even with the dumps open). After my last experience with drone; I wanted to minimize.
