How often should coils be replaced on an f10 m5?

I would have replaced all plugs and the coil on then misfiring cylinder if the plugs had 60k on them. It's also a good preventative measure to do the other coils as well - but not necessary. I've seen a lot of issues with primarily the 13 and early 14 coils.

Where's a good place to buy them? Bosch coils are around $22 each on eBay, seeing if there's other options.

Not sure what 'them' is, but I bought Delphi coils for $24.89 and NGK plugs for $14.12 online from Rock Auto. Both have performed with no problems.

Thread title is coil replacement, so that's who them are. I've found Bosch coils for as low as $20.29 on FCPEuro. I bought my NGK two steps colder plugs from BMS' website but I don't recall what they cost.

Okay. Since the only two pertinent comments concerned both plugs and coils, I tried to be helpful and covered both. Great that FCPEuro is even lower than around $22 for the coils.

Would these misfires mean the coils need replacing?

Could be coil, plug, or injector. If not any of those, it's a more serious issue.

Is it possible that its software related? I had the car reflashed after the dealer updated the software (which wiped the tune), ever since then these misfires have been happening regularly.

I would say no.

Could also be a bad DME if all of the hardware checks out.

It's currently at the dealership and is getting ignition coil and spark plug (cylinder 5) replaced. Will let you know

It's still not working properly. There's a severe cut-off of power. It may be the injectors.

Ugh...looks like I popped a coil tonight doing a few freeway runs. Is everyone using oem coils for replacements? Has anyone tried these "high performance" coils? I may change out my plugs too as I'm coming up on 10k miles with current set.

Edit: spoke with Bavauto and they were cool and told me this coil set wont provide any benefit over OEM Bosch coils for the M models. So, going with NGK 97506 plugs and Bosch 0221504470 coils.

You don't have to replace the ignition coils on a maintenance interval like spark plugs.
There have been "product brand revisions" and BMW is notorious for this going back to the E36 days. BMW finds a vendor and sure enough that same chassis all a sudden has a TSB "Technical Service Bulletin" and all the ignition coils are being replaced by another brand.
I would only recommend using the factory OEM brand.
Cheap parts are cheap for a reason.

I'm just over 100k and while I can't claim any coil issues, I replaced them anyways. I got them from FCP and will replace them at another 100k via their lifetime warranty...assuming I've still got the vehicle then.

James when I had a misfire I had replaced my plugs and injectors. It was time to anyway. Problem solved. But now it's time to go to a colder plug. My mileage is 115k now.
