Exhaust question

I'm the second owner and have no idea what I have for an exhaust. What I know is the muffler is stock BMW and the exhaust tips are the black competition tips. What is unknown to me is what happened to the exhaust valve? It's not there and the tips have been welded on to the muffler? Does this look like a custom job?

Most likely deleted the exhaust valves. It does look like a custom job. Youd probably end doing something similar anyways ... haha

I would check your hoses that use to open/close the valves. If you are laying underneath the rear of the car. You should have hoses hanging or tucked in the bumber in each corner above the exit points of the bumper.

Make sure they are properly sealed otherwise you will loose power.

Thanks 13M5F10. I guess the job was done well because I don't see the hoses and the exhaust has a nice note to it. The F10 sound is growing on me. I never thought I would get over the E60 M5 exhaust note, but I'm liking the F10 sound more and more each day. My wife says she can still here me coming from around the corner.

If you ever get to a point where you loose power, check the hoses first. haha but its possible they plugged them up in the trunk.

When you are bored of the sound, you can add DPs and Exhaust.

Here is my setup, I think it sounds so much better than any V10

This is one of those rare moments where you find a previous owner surprise that's a good one

Good point, I'll need to search for the hoses. I'm also shocked at how much down pipes cost for these cars. But they seem like a must have bolt-on.

I saw/listened to the video earlier today. Your M5 looks awesome and sounds wicked.

Yes the previous owner did me a favor. However, they missed the 1200 mile service by 500 miles and BMW will not give me their extended warranty. The will sale me a warranty from EZ Care. I still have around 12K miles before I need to pull the trigger.

I know a BMW tech in Dallas that won't take his BMW to his own dealer for service, opting to do it at home himself. Perhaps you got a solid third party service?

I do have a solid Indy. He did all the work on my E60 M5 and I never had a problem with price or him not being able to diagnosis the problem and resolving.

Agreed. It's not better and it's not worse. It's just different. Just like how its hard to argue which sounds better, a Ferrari Flat 8-Cylinder engine or a Lamborghini V10 engine. The S85 and the S63tu are both great sounding engines if you put the proper exhaust and header/downpipe setup on them.

I agree 100%. They both sound good. The S85 is a lot louder than the S63tu stock. An exhaust just makes them louder, but in a good way.

Yep v10 sound very nice. Anthony's m6 was badass sounding. But yes as others said, right parts and it can be just as nice but diff. Mine gets a well deserved rest for a month while I get my work on offshore

I'm with both of you guys on this. The Ferrari flat 8 and Lambo V10 comparison is the best way to describe it. They both sound good just different. I dunno if my M6 with full E-Race and supersprint x pipe with resonator delete is louder than my F10 with catless DP, resonator delete and Meisterchaft exhaust. One is high pitched the other is low pitched and throaty. Love them both.
