Software updates

chaps,

For those of you that previously own or still own a E9* M3, you'll remember there were many software updates over the cars life.

Some of these made marked differences in particular to the DCT. The last one; 240e iirc even improved the mileage range - on mine at least

The f10 has been out for a few years but I cant find many threads on software? Have there been many? Is it simply beacuse the car is so awesome out of the box!

Interested to know as the car is going in for some minor work and will ask the dealer

The latest software update for the F10 M5 is F010-14-3-503, released in March 2014. Here are some of the changes.....

The only mechanical difference I've noticed so far is the trunk opening/closing quicker.

Do these updates re-code the car to stock?

Yes, as bobblehead stated, the dealerships will generally perform updates if they need to fix outstanding issues. If no issues are present, you will have to pay them for the update.

I have 11/13 built 2014 M5. Is anything different from what I have?
I watched video but I don't see anything new function... (trunk open/close faster may not be enough reason to pull the trigger)

I quick way to check if you have the latest software is the options overlay. If you have a + sign its the older version, if you have this funky looking icon, its the newer version.

Also the media and phone software was updated. As of 21 May 2014, it is not available for download.

are you sure that all updates will wipe out coding? It seems that these are just media updates and not car programming updates that involve ECU.

FYI

bmw.com needs the VIN to download the latest updates. very easy to do with a USB drive.

I did ask V12 and he said yes it will wipe out custom coding and car needs to be recoded but he kindly offered to redo then it for 50% cost -

Mine updated because of replacing screen that was defective and flickering and I am impressed with the way Hendrick BMW handled this issue!!
