The guys over at M5Board got their hands on the first picture of the upcoming F10 M5 Engine Bay! This motor is at the heart of all the M5 speculation at the moment. What is known is that this motor is based on the Twin Turbo V8 unit currently motivating the X5 and X6 M. However, it has undergone modification for use in the M5 and BMW is clutching onto the exact power and torque figures, keeping us all in suspense.

The S63 Twin Turbo V8 is rumored to produce more power and torque then the equivalent X5/X6M unit while producing 25% less emmisions then the outgoing V10 powered E60 M5.

We are hoping to see this car debut at the M Festival in June, until then, enjoy this beast of an engine bay!

You can compare with the X5 M Engine bay (with the intakes/filters covered up by black plastic)

I see the dual intakes, but WTH are those giant inter-cooler looking aluminum boxes?

Oh, and obligatory

This design looks interesting.

I haven't searched to see the X5/6M setups but I'm wondering something.

I'm assuming the turbos are on level with the exhaust ports which is pretty typical and seems to be the case since the bottom of the intercoolers are right there to cool the gases coming out of them.

Is it safe to assume that there is some air intake plumbing on the bottom side of the airboxes that feed the snails?

All seems normal until I look at the top side plumbing of the airboxes being fed right back into the intake stream.

1. There has got to be some sort of air pressure barrier to keep the boosted portion of the lines from blowing back out the air inlets no?

2. Perhaps these are in line with the boosted plumbing so that more air can be pulled into the system by the boosted flow?

What do you guys think/know about this?

Pehaps they're the newly designed intake scoop?

Looks like a beast. I heard from my local dealer that it will top 580 hp. We'll see if that turns out to be true.

What a convoluted mess. Hurry and get a plastic cover that says 'engine' on there!

Looks like dual water/air intercoolers to me - like on the X5 & X6 M cars. The turbos are in the middle of the engine's V. Pretty slick setup!

BMW should leave it like that, with no plastic covers on the actual production car...

That is one sick-looking engine bay!
