Break in rule didn't get my car for asking for 1L oil

I was driving as the break in procedure suggests not more than 5000 rpm. First 100km engine braking and never full throttle but even with half throttle I got to 6000 rpm couple of times unfortunately. So at 1.800km car is asking for 1 liter of oil. So I didn't add one liter and instead completed break in procedure. Engine oil and differential oil is changed.
Why was it asking for oil??? And is it ok to complete break in procedure at 1.800km??

Lol. First BMW? M or not, they all consume oil. Nothing out of the ordinary. It's actually rather unusual for someone who has a post LCI model to need oil that soon but then again it's break in oil and not the same as the 5w/30 they put in during your break in service. You'll probably be needing to add a quart every 4k miles depending on how hard you drive. Keep a quart in the trunk and you'll be all set

Hard break-in procedures would have prevented oil consumption.
Simply put, often drive at full throttle to 6000-6500 rpm, engine braking by downshifting, and never let it sit around the same rpm for long periods of time on the hwy.
Highway should be variable gears if you are required to drive long distances.
I did this over a course of a few days, while trying not to exceed the speed limits over 20mph. No oil consumption at all for me.

LOL... Have you ever had chance to own 1970's E21 3 series?
Those BMWs used to consume oil as much as gas... they actually burned oil to go faster ...

Makes sense...

The factory specified maximum oil consumption on an E39 M5 is 416 Miles per Litre of oil. If you were under warranty and you could prove you were consuming more then they would replace your engine.
