Cheap performance upgrades for M5 F10
Ive just purchased a new 2016 M5 F10 and im pretty unhappy to see basic tuning mods priced so expensive.
EXAMPLE: -Air filter upgrades seen for circa £1,600 -Rear exhaust box (muffler) deletes seen from £1,100 -UK remaps for £2,500 -Ram air scoops £300 So ive done some digging, and a lot of homework and found that you can get exactly the same as above for much less if you just use your head a little more creatively.. *Air induction kit (RAMAIR) 2 x UNIVERSAL 150mm dry cones with 80mm alloy necks £70 delivered *Fastlane Styling (London) Supply and fit 2 x stainless steel 3.5” duel tips deleting back boxes £250 *Turner Motorsport tuning module 90+ BHP increase with full boost/ignition/fuel increases £500 *Ram air scoops bought from screwfix £4 Ive attached some pics of the above being fitted, the air induction kit replicates the popular BMS kit, and has no issues with heat soak releasing the extra power AND noise as some other induction systems still keep the filters boxed in - thus drowning out the harmonious wastage flutters. Also the exhaust is an awesome upgrade, but we refined the mod by fitting heavy gauge closed cell sound proofing to the boot floor and under rear seats to eliminate “drone” which is actually the metals vibrating (and the annoying ASD) not noise from the exhaust exit – works a treat and only cost £40 PS: upgraded the rear tyres to 305’s which helped wheel spinning, but feel i still need to take it further with a track tyre like the Pirelli Trofeo R’s to really do the job properly, it’s the only thing letting this amazing car down now. So call me a cheapskate (I don’t care) but I won’t throw hard earnt cash down the drain, so bring on the nah sayers to shoot me down !! --) |

Thanks, yes the Turner module is supposed to be much better than the BMS as its corrects fuel mixture accurately and timing. Im told the BMS system lets the ECU try and adjust on its own and only turns boost up 3 psi

What scary for me is that you are based in London, your car looks pretty much the same as mine and I have exactly the same thoughts as you.....
The thing that has been stopping me making mods though is the effect on warranty...Currently fighting a battle with Mondial/Allianz to get clarity over what happens to the warranty when you modify certain bits and not having much luck so far... |

They state in their terms and conditions that any modifications with non bmw parts will invalidate the entire warranty of the whole car! mental i know! but this is what I am currently fighting and ive used examples like "if I paint my wheels pink will that invalidate my entire warranty" When I get to the bottom of it I will post on here for all UK owners to view as its a very different situation (apparently) compared to the rest of the wolrd |

Right thinking - although you could have got the same bang for less.
K&N drop-ins on stock airbox - $45 Forget about exhaust - does nothing BMS JB4+BCM is $700 and you will be at 680+whp |

Don't believe all the Kool aid guys.... not saying that module doesn't work; just need to be very clear how it works compared to everything else. Even the flash tunes don't 'correct' timing and mixture. They have targets for load and a target for AFR/Timing and it will always try to achieve those under the various load conditions. |
