Now that's what you call customer service!

It was a bad day, no a very bad day.

The noise was excruciating, it was bone jarring, boy was it loud. The fear hit instantly, oh no, how bad can it be?

For those of you who have done it will fully understand the depth of feeling when you know you have just kerbed and alloy.

Stopping the car then getting out to look was like being in a funeral procession, slow slow knowing just what your going to see. Nothing perepares you for it. Aghhhhhhhhh, you plonker you think to yourself. Wheel gubbed!

Now the pain really sets in £580 plus fitting for a new replacement! Ouch!

Fast forward 2 weeks, wheel was on back order, new one arrives and is fitted.

Sorted! Erm, No!

The details, a 2015 M5, 19" wheels.

Replacement wheel straight from factory is a completely different shade from the other 3 on car.

BMW technical then involved by dealer. Now it seems BMW have changed wheel manufacturer since car was built.

Long story short, no wheels available to match mine in car. BMW solution?

Change the lot to all new at no cost to customer! WoW! Now that is customer service.

For those on 19's, beware!

Cannot express the helpfulness of my dealer Douglas Park, Hamilton and also that of BMW enough, now that's how to keep a customer!

Very interesting. So for the 19" stock wheels the shade of the wheel changed eh? So is the new wheel shade lighter or darker than the old one? Can you provide pics?

why on earth would you buy brand new wheel if you simply kerbed it? whats the big deal to fix it?

most expensive i have ever paid for a refurb of a wheel is 150 gbp for diamond cut and thats from top specialist

well, i guess your loss

and its not a news that wheels are always different shades, thats why if you ever need to refurb 1 wheel, you need to paint 2nd wheel on same side to match them

Because my life depends on my wheels, would I fix it, NO its scrap and new one fitted. And as you put it a refurb is never right, thus you have to do the other one on the same side.

Each to their own, but I'd rather pay £580 and get it right 1st time in the full knowledge that its done right!

what do u mean your life depends on your wheels? was your wheel cracked? no
was your wheel heavily damaged? no

its a simple scratch, wheel becomes unbalanced, if you leave it as is, so you wether go and check wheel balance or refurb it and balance it afterwards

you dont change your car, if your bumper gets scratched, or your windscreen gets cracked, do you?

if its a scrap, you can throw it my way
i will pay for shipping

It's a bit of both to be honest. In a picture you will not see any difference. One way to tell if you have the newer ones though is look at the wheel If the paint runs all the way from the front to the back in the same colour then they are new. The older version the shade changed just beyond the spokes to a different shade (Darker) Again I never noticed this, it was BMW technical that pointed this out.

You only really notice the difference in the new ones in bright sunshine, the seem to be a little less reflective, it is hard to describe accurately. On a plus point the newer ones don't seem to hold the dirt and brake dust as bad, but again that might just be me.

As I said each to their own, you do it your way, fine by me, don't have any issues with it. But don't expect everyone to do as you do just to save a few quid!

Sometime things are more important than £££££

Its not about money
If you can afford m5 you can afford 540£ wheel obviously, unless some special case
But still, you can damage your wheel more by going through potholes, even small once at low speeds and you wont see the damage
And curb rush is no different, but visible

Don't disagree. However, not all damage is reparable and in this case it wasn't. But even if it was I would still have chosen a replacement as I would never been happy with the repair unless it was 100% and chances are it would not have been.

Rim integrity is of prime importance in retaining your tyre on the the wheel!
