The dark side was a joke that started back in May. The previous thread was locked, and you don't want To bring up that mess. Long story several of us bought 991's as a second card, and Coldlst hated the 991. He drove the car still hated. Drove it agin and loved the car and posted pic. We called him young skywalker as he was fighting to turn to another brand. By the way he still has M6 so he still loves the M car as I do. Hope that helps.

I think a lot of this is a result of the two year lease programs coming from PFS. With 72-75 point residuals and discounts like the OP's these cars have roughly the same TCO.

The segment is made up of people wiling to spend $1,200-$1,500 per month for a unique/special driving experience. It's not a surprise to me that M5 buyers and 911 buyers coexist in this segment, and I'd assume the psychographics bear it out. Porsche will differentiate around the "raw" driving expedience, while BMW will continue to strike the perfect balance between performance and luxury.

Porsche also does some unique things with their 911 buyers to keep them in relatively new cars, pulling leases forward etc... if you have a segment that loves cars, they will have wandering eyes and you need to keep them engaged.

This competition will be good for us as the buyers. I expect BMW to respond with something that keeps the M5 buyer engaged. My bet/hope- something that keeps us going to the Welt every fall.

I love the 911. Always wanted a 991 but was out of what I wanted to spend. Then, like you, I received a substantial discount off a 2013 (16K) which made it more reasonable for me. The reason I asked about MSRP is mine was that price (131,045) and there are a bunch of those 2013's still around. They were what Porsche calls "launch vehicles", meaning they came out with intro of C4S, so they are all optioned the same way. Had almost everything I wanted plus a couple things I would not have ordered, PDCC and PSE being the main items (but now that I have them I am glad the car came with them). Unlike some, I could not justify keeping both my M5 and my 911. I ended up placing my M5 for sale on autotrader. Over 3 weeks and only one call. MSRP 99K, listed for 86K. So I ended up selling to a BMW dealer for 79.5K. They ended up selling for 83.5K. Anyway, loved my M5 both are of course great cars, but I realized I was not really utilizing the added practicality most the time. Good opportunity came up for another car I have always wanted to own, so I took it. At some point I am sure I will get back to a sedan like M5, perhaps as a second car but we will see. Good luck, I am sure you will enjoy the new ride.

It started because Bimmers 6 was being funny with me and Vic and talking "Star Wars" language. Haha..a joke. All in fun. Look at his icon.

Very well said. Again there are no negative comparisons being made. There are difference being pointed out, just the same as they are when someone buys the M5. He, as well as the rest us, made a decision based upon needs and wants and research. As an adult he made a suitable purchase. For several of us money played absolutely no part in the decision, other than a little fun negotiating with the dealer, as is always an entertaining part of the deal. Therefore no justifying of a purchase really needs to be made. No justifying needs to be made in fact even if money was a factor. I applaud the OP for doing enough research for that to be a deciding purchase factor stand alone. I am with you here 100% in keeping this respectful and simply congratulating the OP on a very nice and very well thought out purchase.

Nice acquisition! To me the Dark Side has overhangs that are too long and is simply too low to the ground for the roads I travel on. Without front end lift kit the Dark Side can be a pain in the Back Side. lol Good luck!

Porsche isn't getting a dime of my money until I drive it first...

Then again, I may have to go change my shorts now.

Congrats on the c4s. I enjoy my c4s and love it more and more every day.

If there is a need for four doors car, I will keep my m5.

Like what other member said, I soon realize I didn't really use the back seats of my m5. M5 is a great car with four doors but not ideal for long trip.

Hey RPIM5 did a socal to DC trip that's a haul I would say. I did a light trip from MI to GA, and was very comfortable while not getting arrested(: I took the 991 from ATL to South Carolina not bad put the car in sport plus/comfort setting and more comfortable than I would have ever imagined. I need to test drive a c4, but I'm a rear wheel guy no need for the extra pulling yet. In would say the M5 and 991 are perfect stable mates if your looking for a second tool.

I should include more detail

My long trip meant family long trip with kids.

Wife and I prefer to drive our SUV for most of the trip.
