Bye bye M5, time for a change

After a little over 2.5 years with the M5 I started getting restless and needed a new car.

With a young family, I need a four-door so although a 911 would have been a fun choice, it wasn't one I could make. Looked at the LCI M6GC but just didn't feel sufficiently different. Considered an CLS63 AMG but ultimately didn't like the style, inside or out.

So, I have just bought a new, face lifted RS6. Found a nicely specced one sat in a dealership ready to go, avoiding the 6 month lead time for a fresh order!

Got an extended test drive and there are some immediate pros and cons relative to the M5. Will post detailed impressions when I pick it up, hopefully next week.

I will miss the M5 but looking forward to the ridiculous acceleration from a standstill and being able to play in all weathers. Going to Germany in May too so will have chance to check out the higher limiter.

I am sure I will be back for the next gen M5, but its time to try something new!

Interested to know how you get on. The lack of traction all year round is a factor

That was true for the previous (v10TT) model. The latest (V8TT) is wagon only in all markets.

Although its not my car, this one is optioned (externally / visually at least) just like mine:

Audi Video

Here's a full tour of the RS 6

Unfortunately our local Audi dealer will nickel and dime you to death, is rarely available and never calls back

Know were your coming from, I let the LCI M5 go after 1 year for the M6 GC CP, big upgrade all round.
I looked at the RS6 Avant but could not get one at the right price ( way over priced) good luck with it and keep us up to date .

Thanks John.

Audi have started playing ball with contributions - still less than BMW, but I hit the timing right (end of the quarter) and managed to do a decent deal. Still lower discounts than the LCI M6 but residuals tend to be significantly better.

6 month wait time for a new order helps that too!

Bummer. I'm not a wagon (avant) guy, although I do appreciate the utility. Great choice. Enjoy.

Did Audi give a "forward valuation" on your PX?.
Or did you not PX your car?.

The V10TT RS6 is one of a kind. Too bad they downgraded to V8TT on the current gen.

I PX'd my car. No need for a forward valuation - I picked a face lifted car that is sat in stock. Getting it next week.

Agreed, the V10 generation of Audi and BMW Ms were excellent - but times are changing. Unfortunately, I don't think we will go back, but thankfully we are getting much better performance on the new V8s.

And the tuning potential of the Audi V8 is still huge!

What channels is your friend using to get one in the states?

The RS6 Avant is a unicorn and I'd love to have one.

Cool, it's like an estate wagon version of the RS7.

Bad-ass for sure
