Thinking About Doing This! Having a Strong Urge!
Well, like many of you, I feel that I've reached the pinnacle of BMW ownership with ownership of an M5, and lately, I've found myself scouring the net researching BMWs,..mainly the E30 Series, that others have done an "engine swap"! Naturally, my searched yielded all sorts of results, and one I find myself lured to is an engine swap of an E46 M3 into something like a 318is E30. If not the E46 M3 engine, at least the engine from an E46 330i.
Basically, this amounts to building your own BMW,....basically sort of how some take their stock M5 to a much higher level with mods and a tune. Well,..not exactly, but the end result is that one has a much different car than what came from the factory! There plenty of decent E30s out there to select from,...it's just a matter of finding the right vehicle (price wise),...and painstakingly mapping out the process with a reliable shop. I'd also like to be part of the process,....event down to getting hands dirty and aching back, as there is great reward in doing one's own work,...or at least being involved in it. Cost of E30,...$5-10K,....Donor Engine $????.?? (...or $??,???.??); Tranny, Driveshaft,...DME CPU, Rear Diff, Wiring Harness, Engine mount, Misc stuff, etc. I'm sure adding a turbo to say,...a 325is would be better suited! ...325 cents for your thoughts?

Probably a fair assessment to say that most of us have similar thoughts. The details may differ but the overall objective the same. I'd love an e30 with an S65. Please

Another party that says go for it...there's beauty in the journey! I like the e46 or e92 swap into an e30 or a 318. See if you can find a roller that will suit your needs. If that doesn't give you enough power shoot for an LS6 swap into one of the aforementioned shells! SUBSCRIBED!
