Low ticking/cricket sound coming from instrument cluster at low rpm
MY 2013 F10 M5 October 2012 build. I am noticing a cricket chirping sound coming from instrument cluster at low rpm. If you accelerate its gone but sounds like something to do with cluster. Does anyone know anything about this?
Also, is there a fix for squealing brakes aside from me properly setting them? |

I have the same cricket sound, dealer told me it was the turbo waste gates, not sure if I believe them but they did tell me they drove another and could hear the same sound from it as well. March 2013 build.

Thanks. Car has 9000 miles now. Brake issues comes and goes but buzzing /cricket sound is annoying. I had Turner cat-back exhaust for some time and removed the system to go back to stocks exhaust and now the buzzing is noticeable. The sound appears to come from electronics in instrument cluster rather than waste gates. thank you for your responses.

I agree, I think it's coming from the dash as well as I don't think it's the waste gates either. Unfortunately on mine there is no noise at idle, just when the throttle is pressed till the point where the engine is too loud to hear the buzzing/chirping. It's hard to jump out of the car to hear if the sound is coming from the engine bay when it's moving. Luckily I can't hear it with the music on, or during 'spirited' driving, but when driving sanely with the family in the car and the music low. My wife even noticed the sound from the passenger seat.

You cant hear wastegate with all windows up, even if your music is off
Once u open window or sunroof u can hear it So if you hear it with windows up, it is definitely not a wastegate |

I recently bought a used F10 M5 (54k miles). I love the car but it seems to have developed (don't think it was there when I first bought it) this same ticking/cricket sound that is described by others above. I thought I was going crazy, so relieved in a sense that others have experienced it as well.
Please, did anybody get to the bottom of this, and manage to identify the exact issue / solution? Thanks in advance! |
