Newbie

Hey guys, just scooped a '13 M5 Black Sapphire Metallic over the weekend. Loving it so far, came from an '07 E63 AMG to an '08 IS-F and my last car before the M5 was a '10 C63 AMG. I'll post pics once i get it back from the wheels and LCI update. Gotta say this forum helped make the decision to buy a lot easier and look forward to reading more!

Welcome

How does the M5 compare to the IS-F and C63 AMG in your opinion?

Hey and Thanks. My IS-F had Sikky Headers and the Borla full Cat Back exhaust. That thing sounded mean and was quicker than you'd think. The interior was nice and liked the touch screen navi. As for performance the shifts were amazing, as soon as you touched the paddle it was literally immediate and in sport mode the throttle response was great. That being said the suspension (stock) was laughable. I had 19 inch Vossen's on them and no matter what i did it never felt solid. Some days i'd feel like i was on a trampoline. i do miss the car due to the rarity of them and had absolutely no issues with it, but if i would've kept it then i would've def had to upgrade the suspension.

The C63 was a glorified go-kart. That thing had some power to it and as anyone who's driven an AMG can attest, the exhaust note was intoxicating. Wasn't impressed with the shifting, even in manual mode there was a bit of lag. Of course the interior was basic and the infotainment/navi was dated, but the suspension was solid for stock and raw power was fun as heck to have.

The M5 is my first turbo car so i finally get to experience the turbo lag (though minimal) that everyone talks about. But man when those things spool up my head literally hit the back of the seat. It's a bigger car than i'm used to but it feels solid in my hands and the shifting is great. The tech makes me feel like an old person discovering the internet for the first time and i'm an MIS major haha. But all in all i'm very happy with it so far.

Hope this gives you a good answer!

Hey thanks! I mean the LCI cosmetic upgrade (blacked out grilles '14+ and side markers) that iND sells. Sorry should have been clearer.

Oh I see. Just to clarify LCI upgrades were headlights, tail lights, steering wheel. Blacked out grilles and side markers are just upgrades, but not part of LCI, unless you get double kidney grilles. 😊

Upgrading the steering wheel is much cheaper and easier than doing LCI headlight conversion. The torque makes me forget about the ugly steering wheel.
As far as your isf I know tuners tried to break the encryption of the ecu since 2008. Did that ever happen?

From what i remember it never happened when i owned it. Not sure if they've made progress since, but from what i remember in the forums it was a massive b* and damn near impossible.

We had a similar issue, but luckily the encryption was just recently broken so you got lucky.

Yeah that and a reworked ecu for the steering vibration caused by the malfunctioning servotronic system that plagued the majority of the 13 batch that they never bothered to fix. If it's under warranty make sure that you give them hell if that starts acting up. There's no excuse for that nonsense.
