Bah I love this car and the fact that its coming with 6spd. is a dream. I need to make more $$ so I can keep the 911 and add this to the stable!

I have an M3 with a 6 spd but not again. The DCT is just too good and the be honest on a big sports luxury car it's a better package. Easier to sell too.

Canadian orders

Just wanted to find out if M5 Manual transmission model is available now for Canadian MY2012 or are MT models only for MY2013?

No, I'll be getting Full Merino. I've been told It's possible to ask it as a special order but that only applies to the upper dashboard, the door panels would always be the regular ones.
I have another meeting next thursday at my dealership with a guy from BMW Portugal to solve this. They take full responsability on their mistake, but they are trying to see if I accept the car as it is, or changing the parts.

Also note that there is a material change expected to the M5’s vehicle electronics as of July 2012 production. The change will not impact the output or performance of the M5. Additional details of the change will be available in the later part of Q2 2012. With the model year and vehicle electronic changes expected as of July 2012 production, please ensure your customers consider this information before placing an order between 03/12-06/12 production."

That electronics change is likely one of the reasons for the delayed US introduction.

I also thought it interesting that the presumably higher-cost "individual" leather does not include as much leather as the "full" leather. Look closely and you'll see that the individual colors do not include individual upper dash or upper door sections.
Does anyone have any idea of what electronic changes might these be? Maybe the B&O sound system???

All I can figure is the B&O sound system and maybe the rumored ceramic brakes.

The dealers dont know either. BMW Canada prob does, good luck getting to the right person though

one of my biggest disappointment for m5, NO B&O as an option. Its a 130000 doller car and still use those bad speakers.....

What´s up with the fuel consumption?
European spec = 9.9L/100km
Canadian spec = 11.1L/100km

The electronic changes are in relation to the 6 spd and emissions from what I was told through dealer.

I believe the B & O sound system and ceramic brakes are going to be available options on subsequent model years.

If anyone has the chance and cash to get the ceramic brake option get it, I have it on another car and the stopping power is amazing I would rather get out of trouble faster than I got into it

I believe it has to do with emission requirements for Canada

Can you comment on what the dealer said on the upkeep of your ceramic brakes? I assume its on the 911? What about winter? what about tire swaps? What about the potential fagility of the disc?

These are the things that concern me. I would do ceramic over the B&O sound but I'd prefer both.

Anyone hear the M5 sound system yet? is it really that bad? My M3 kicks ass. Cant see why the M5 would be worse, its 4 years newer.

Thx

Prob fuel too. The M5 in Europe runs on their super premium whereas our std 91 is pretty shitty.

I know there is a diff btw RON and PON but their gas I think is a 94 octane in our system.

The fragility of the disc has not been a problem for me however I read something from when Porsche first brought them out for production cars there were some problems but this was quite a number of years ago.

The tire swaps and winter driving I can't comment the car has never been driven in winter it is stored from mid November until April.

I have driven it in colder temperatures -1 C or so and have not noticed any difference in brake performance

I have done track days with it and have noticed excessive brake dust on calipers and rims more so than watching cars with standard brakes so possibly the pads wear faster or wear differently that I don't know.

Re : maintenance of pccb ( ceramic brakes )

I was not told of any special upkeep nor have I read anything or done anything

I am sure when it is time for the brake service it won't be cheap
