Waylens dashcam and Max 360 radar detector mounting

I mounted my Max 360 using a 'permanent mount' which is just a slim angled bracket with double-sided tape - this gets rid of the bulky suction mount and allows the radar detector to sit closer to the windshield. i mounted it up high so it doesn't block my view, like the blendmount or other below the rear-view mirror mounts do. i used the Blendmount MirrorTap MTX Power Cord since it had nice braided sheath and an inline fuse.

I also mounted the Waylens dashcam up as high to get the best view. the very wide angle lens doesn't let me mount it behind the mirror without getting the mirror base into frame. I have ordered a tiny 12v to 5v converter. i intend on soldering the converter to another mirrortap, or share with the radar one, depending on fitment with the taps. there should be plenty of space under that mirror housing to hold the converter and any extra wire slack. btw, the Waylens draws up to 2 amps (i hope the mirror circuit can handle them both).

Looks good what's the brand of the detector bracket? I have mine in the same location with the suction cup but it does occasionally let go lol

look on ebay for 'permanent mount' for your detector (this link may get outdated - http://www.ebay.com/itm/122205712068) . i bought one from a US shipper for about 10 bucks. the 3m heavy duty double-sided tape should stick really well.

edit:i just drove with this mount and the radar detector was 'bouncy'. the weight of the 360 is too much and flexes of the mount. the mount itself is made to be bent to adjust for angle, so the metal isn't rigid like aluminum. overall it works but i'll see if this bugs me in the long term.

i completed the install.

i took the extra wires from the MirrorTap and spliced it into the wires that go into the mirror (and Max 360).
i soldered in the 12v to 5v USB converter (has built in protection) and added some heat shrink. i covered the converter because it was a raw circuit, but i didn't shrink the heat shrink to maximize heat dissipation.

i used a short right-angle micro usb cable for the Waylens.

and it all fits into the housing easily.

the power is switched, so the radar detector turns on/off with the ignition. the camera does the same and is set to auto record.

i'll report back if i encounter any long term issues.

Spider, long shot here (old thread) but which wire did you tap for the switched 12V?
