New M5 Owner!

Hey everyone,

I'm a new and very happy owner of 2014 M5 with competition package. Still under warranty and only has 12k miles on it. This is my third BMW but first M car and I love it! So far, I've only put an ECS Tuning Interior Lighting Kit and hardwired my radar. I'm waiting on my Gloss Black Kidney Grilles and Gloss Black Fender Side Grilles. I need some suggestions on the next couple of upgrades. Take a look and tell me what you think...

congrats

Congrats, beautiful car.. I just picked up a certified 2014 M5 with 10k miles, my second F10 M5. I got all the cosmetics done. Working on exhaust, suspension and tune. Get a exhaust done man, you'll be so happy.

Nice car. In my Opinion if you are gonna follow the law and put the front plate on, just put it in the middle where it belongs. The offset tow hook plate mount just messes up the whole symmetry of the front of the car. Tow hook mounts suck.

Congrats! Exhaust/wheels are a must. Suspension is already great on the CP, and with the right wheels a drop isn't even needed.

Great car.

As others have said the exhaust's a nice improvement.

I would also have the chrome on the door handles wrapped in white and maybe add some spacers if you intend to stick with the factory wheels

If you're concerned about warranty maybe a piggy and charcoal delete and K&N drop-ins.

Good luck and enjoy the car.

Delete the charcoal filters if you can and at least K&N drop ins.

Spacers at least for the rearvto match the front.

Exhaust.

Tune or piggyback!

If piggyback you run Map 2 which is safer than running on non-comp cars. And Map 2 is FUN!! Or a tune for proper reprogramming of your DME's as piggybacks are known to be inconsistent and throw drivetrain malfunction codes.

Anyway, congrats!

Thanks for all the feedback!

The spacers is an easy one. I'll put in 12mm by next week and update.

I definitely want an exhaust but having trouble deciding which one. From what I've read on here, the Akraprovic is very similar to the comp exhaust I have on now. I don't want a loud exhaust or drone. Any suggestions?

Easy. Eisenmann race if keeping stock dp's. Sport if going catless.

Yeah. If you are gonna put the plate on, just put it where it belongs. Drilling the bumper sucks, but if you are gonna have a plate. Put it in the middle where it does not destroy the symmetry of the car. The tow hook location looks like a "tacky afterthought" The optimal choice is NO PLATE. But I just bit the bullet and put it where it belongs.

I wonder how many states require front plates? What happens in let's say, NY, if you forgo the plate? Is this something that's enforced? I assume fines etc.

What a PITA!

I already got 2 "warnings" from cops in NYC so I put the tow hook mount on (wasn't the only reason for pulling me over lol). I personally do not want to drill holes in the front and the tow hook can easily be removed so if I go on a run I will take it off. Since this is my daily driver, I keep the tow hook on most of the time.

I'm leaning towards the Eisenmann Race with Stock DP's but with all the videos I find here, I can't tell if they have stock DP's/Eisenmann DP's/Custom. It's real hard without hearing in person. I'm looking for louder than CP but not by much.

That is horrible logic. Do NOT drill into the front bumper. Who cares about the symmetry with using a tow hook mount? Good job on over-thinking that one.

Horrible logic? LOL Why do people not want the plate in the front? Because the car looks better without it. The plate makes the car look "ugly" But if you have to have the plate by LAW, It looks Better in its natural spot, IN THE MIDDLE. You can Velcro it , if you like. You can use the Hide away plate if you like, But put it in the damn middle, like millions of other cars have it. It does not matter how you attach it, if you are hung up on the holes, But it is ALL ABOUT THE LOOK OF THE CAR. If you weren't worried about looks, everybody would have their plates on the front of their cars and not have to worry about tickets.

Yeah , you can get ticketed, DAILY until you put it on. Some parts of the state, they will never bother you about it. Other parts, you will get stopped and fined constantly.

I had the E race and removed it because the cold start was really loud and the drone made it intolerable on the highway.

Switched to full Akra and never looked back. Go Akra or you will be disappointed.

There is a reason BMW went with Akra for their MPE.
