Totally different cars, SUV vs Sedan.

Since I hates SUVs, M5 all the way.

I'm a Porsche owner and Porsche lover, and I agree with this. ^^

When I was shopping for new car 6 months ago, the Cayenne GTS was my first choice but there was a 6 - 7 months wait for the SUV, I opted out for the M5 as I only have to wait 2 months for it.

This is my view. I can't stand SUVs and my tastes are irrelevant here.

It's like asking if you prefer men or women. We can't answer that question for you. I can tell you that if you are in the middle of the Kinsey scale for cars, perhaps you should get both.

2013 BMW ///M5  [0.00]
About a year ago I started beginning my search for my next car - having loved my e46 M3 the M5 was one of my top options. Since my wife loves SUVs (and we share a car since we both dont drive to work) I considered the X5M and cayenne GTS. At the time I couldnt find much info on a Cayenne GTS but figured they would make one around now, and with the current X5 model being retired that didnt make sense.

Having owned a supercharged RRS, I remember driving it and still missing the feel of a sports sedan/coupe. I know the GTS performance would have killed the RRS, but for me when it came to making my decision, it was easily the M5 after seeing and reading about it. I know its apples to oranges, but some people's situation, like our's call for one car and picking between a performance SUV and Sedan isnt as far fetched. Since I dont have to drive in the snow and the M5 provides ample room for travel and loading crap, its now an easy decision. If I were deciding between the Cayenne and an M3 coupe, I think I'd have to think longer and harder. Best of luck.

If you're leasing, the Cayenne has terrible lease terms.

If you want an SUV, maybe you should take a look at the X6M.

Hmmm... interesting comparison. We own a very well equipped Cayenne S and it is quite an amazing machine for its size. The GTS will be a bit more sporty and have a very nice exhaust note (inside the cabin) that I do wish our current ride was equipped with. The Cayenne's fit, finish, and performance is leagues ahead of all over SUVs except for maybe the X6M.

In all honesty I do find them completely different cars and with the M5 on the way will have both (well an S not GTS). The Cayenne is not an ///M car and the transmission will be one area that this stands out the most - its an auto box and lacks the excitement of either DCT or MT. 4WD versus 2WD will be another area of big differences, the list goes on and on. Try and test both if you can.. but really different rides.

We need a SUV, so about a month ago, I started my search. First SUV came to my mind was the Cayenne. Went to dealer, test drive the GTS, wasn't impressed. Then test drive turbo, I really liked it, but the price tag like 135k, that's almost 45k more than the X6M. Plus, Porsche is much more expensive to maintain than BMW. I just had my Carrera GT serviced three weeks, oil change $970.64, two tire pressure senors $719.50, front spoiler lip( the old one broke, it just a piece of plastic, not carbon fiber) $1206.02, brake system flush $232.51. And I just looked at my receipt now, saw another charge call Customer pay shop charge for repair order $49.95, I don't even know WTF is that for. Total $3321.48. So, if you love Porsche, then you better have your wallet ready.

Not to dwell on maintenance costs because our Cayenne has been very minimal so far but bro you are driving a Carrera GT Its probably one of the most amazing super cars of our generation - I can't believe how well values have held up over all these years. So while Porsche maintenance is definitely something to consider the Carrera GT is not the best example ... both our 911 and Cayenne has been very reasonable and once a year for each.

So which SUV are you leaning towards?

I would agree on Cayenne GTS. I think these naturally aspirated engines just aren't competitive anymore. Porsche will soon have to offer forced induction in the mainstream line-up and not just in superexpensive turbo models.

I really like the Cayenne turbo, especially the interror, but not 45k more than the X6M. Most likely, I am gonna get the X6M.

Btw, is BMW gonna revamp the X6 soon? Since The x6 has been out since 2008

The X6M will probably be out a year after the X5M. So I imagine about 2 years out or more.

I have the m5 and a cayenne S with sport exhaust, air suspension, turbo II wheels and upgraded almost everything..... Unless you're looking to get around in the snow there is no contest between a cayenne and the m5. My wife drives the cayenne on a daily basis and loves it, but its a flashy vw none the less. It just feels sub par to the M5's quality..... Not by much but imho the m5 is the way to go. Btw the cayenne S only has 20 hp less than the gts. Go M5 100%!!!!!!
