As for being out of sight... Its totally hidden behind the carpet in a pocket with other modules.
I didn't realize you could fit it behind the carpet. I ran the wires by the trunk hinge and velcrod to the carpeted area where the net is located. Is the space behind the carpet near the brake lights or more towards the front of the car? Thanks!

How do you prevent it rattling around? Did you surround it with fire-retardant insulation foam?

Also I'm struggling to attach the ground wire. Maybe I'm using the wrong tool (spanner) but I can't get the nut to move. Let me know if there is a tool I should go out and buy, or if I can just attach the ground with electrical tape.

I just placed mine on the floor next to where I installed it and just reinstalled the carpet right back over it. Plenty of room for it. I used one of the rear lens nuts as the ground. Much easier.

I ran the wires by the hinge and velcrod to the carpet. Probably better to keep under the carpet if you can keep it from rattling, but it works for now.

I think I used a 10mm socket to remove the nut. Came off easily for me.

I have installed this now and I find it to be somewhat disappointing. There is a clear difference in tone with valve open or closed. But it isn't louder. To be honest I prefer the slightly higher pitch at low rpms with valve closed on my Eisenmann Sport.

The Eisenmann Sport sound is lower than the OEM exhaust to start with.

I didn't notice much of a difference until I had someone drive my car past me in both modes for comparison. It's definitely louder, but for $100+, it's the subtle mod I expected.

Makes sense I suppose. Although for me what the car sounds like to people on the outside is irrelevant. In fact the quieter on the outside the better from a point of view of not attracting law enforcement. In an ideal world, we could just reprogram the Active Sound and keep the stock exhaust. Unfortunately BMW doesn't allow that.

Well said, Stealth! That is exactly what I would want. Hmmm...seems like some of our more resourceful forum members could develop a better sound file...

Whey - hey - success.

What a faff trying to get the video to embed.

Anyway.... here's an example of the Exhaustmeister in action.

best bang for your buck you'll get for your M5.

Sounds wonderful just burbling about the town and when you give it the beans in a tunnel - WOW!!!

$8K for a new exhaust or $100 for an Exhaustmeister - I'm delighted i tried the $100 solution first.

Took about 10 minutes to get the carpets out the way - 10 minutes to unplug/plug, earth and secure the unit and about 5 minutes to fix the carpets back.

Rather happy bunny.

I recorded on a decent video camera but it still doesn't do justice to the bass sound improvement.

It's good bang for buck, but its no comparison to a new exhaust. Interestingly you can also add the exhaustmeister to an Eisenmann Sport or Akrapovic exhaust for even more sound. I'm running it on my full Eisenmann Sport, but it is certainly no substitute for the Sport.

I finally put mine on tonight (just suffered with not having time).

I immediately drove it and enjoyed it. It did what I wanted it do which was to retain that low rumble that is present for way too short of a time after you start the engine cold!

Well worth the money in my opinion.

Installed the exhaust Meister tonight on my CP... Works perfectly, and programmed two of the mirror garage door buttons to do the open and the close and leave my third for the actual garage. all works very smoothly

As for the sound it gives it a nicer more rounded lower base throatier sound at idle. My wife could tell right away and she didn't even know what she was listening for.

I haven't had someone else drive so I could listen but I suspect that it's more obviously different on the outside versus the inside... It's way too cold right now to drive around with the windows down and listen for myself.

**Update: I thought i couldnt notice it as much in the cab... until I realized my error. When the car is shut off the valves default to OEM position -- they close at low RPMs and only open according to BMW's schedule for them. If you use this mod and want the sound, you need to enable it after every startup it seems. I just hit it right after I close my garage upon leaving.

Sound is definitely more noticeable at low RPMS... seems to be the way BMW intended it, without the noise-nanny features.

Nice - I started installing mine a few days ago, and found that the left cover didn't come loose enough to remove or pull it back after removing the 4 plastic rivets the install guide point to. Did you have to remove more than those to get it off clean?

I didn't have enough time to continue messing with it so I buttoned it up to come back to it when I have more time.

Thanks

I only removed the three shown on their website. I used a nylon panel removing tool remember on two you need to pop both the pin and then the underlying bracket. Finally, along the trunk so the carpet is pretty firm up and under the rubber gasket so you have to kind of peel that out in order to pull the carpet down

Can't you save the signal in your Homelink garage opener? I'm pretty sure the frequency can be saved.

That's been previously addressed in this thread.
