Helmets as hand luggage

Turns out helmets have to be work at the M Track Day next week.

Does anyone know if a helmet counts as a piece of hand luggage, or can you bring a 22" carry-on, a briefcase and a helmet?

I checked mine in its box last fall. At $25 each way. I was hoping to not have to do that this time. Oh well. But I do have a helmet sock and maybe use a loaner helmet?

for $1300 they should provide them.............

I decided to pass on this. I don't need to stay at the W and they insist on including it in the cost. I will wait for a local event to book the track and take my car over there at some point. I am sure you guys will enjoy the track and the city, or what you see of it.

They do provide them, but I'd rather wear my own.

Maybe I'll just ship it.

I wonder what they can do if you claim its part of your attire not hand luggage.

A plane travels much faster than any cars going around a race track so if driving requires one for safety issue, what's not appropriate for wearing one when being on a plane. I like to use that as an excuse but I think the security guys at the airport will beat me down to the ground. Haha

I did some googling, and was encouraged by this post on a member on LotusTalk

If youre dead set on bringing on, use a large duffel instead and secure the helmet to the duffel with a strap, and throw it over your shoulder so its behind u. If they say no, gate check the bag.

I wear my helmet everytime I get on a plane... even when I'm back in first class:

Last place I would put my AGV GP Tech Rossi replica helmets would be in check in baggage. It's coming in with me.

Agree. Here is a cautionary tale on checking a helmet.
