Issues with tune vs piggy back? DME tuning vs JB4

Posting here because this forum is much more active than M6 forum

Im considering getting a tune on my car (DME tuning stage 3)

I currently have a JB4, downpipes, and afe intake, however, the jb4 is giving me continuous issues with weird idle and error messages. I remember on my other cars the difference a piggyback vs a tune made, so I am assuming (correctly?) that similar differences are made here, based on the search function of the forum.

I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with DME tuning
And if anyone here has this tune and has had any issues?

I intend to remove my JB4 once the car is tuned, or at most set it to Map 0.

Thanks for your help

Do a search in the engine, exhaust, drivetrain section of this forum and you'll have enough to read for days not only on the DME tune but on the piggy vs. tune debate. Good luck!

I added DME stage 3 with clutches at the same time. Still breaking in clutches so I have yet to get on it, but so far i can say power is so much smoother and consistent. So far very happy I stacked the two

Are you running the BCM with the JB4? I'm curious as to why you're having issues. Does this issue happen when set to Map 0? I would most definitely have your plugs changed and gapped before tuning and get your MAF sensors cleaned to see if the issue goes away.

It's a night and day difference in performance with a tune vs piggy.

Just take it to Ted and have him flash it!

Yes I have JB4 with BCM running a mix of either Map 1 (85% of time) and Map 2 (15% of time)

I am not positive the issues are JB4 related, but I have heard of people having similar issues and also having JB4

Not blaming JB4 for the issues. Want to make that clear. Rereading my first post it comes across as that.

If Ted is getting your ECUs removed and flashed, have him replace and gap the plugs at the same time. It will be needed and highly recommended. I would also clean the MAFs as well. This will at least either fix the issue or set you up for success later because the more aggressive tune will need the new plugs and gapped to spec.

If you need help, let me know, I'm in Houston weekly. I think we were neighbors at one time lol
