Gxx M5 timeline?

Any of you all who are in the know or are better in touch with BMWs developmental plans know exactly when the next M5s will be out?

I am guessing it will be a year after the Gxx 5 series for EU customers, then another year after that for the states? If this is about right, would the earliest Euro Delivery be around summer of 2017 for a MY 2018?

I will email my contact at M HQ. I doubt he will tell me but maybe he will give some clues.

I would guess late 2017 in Europe based on move to six year product cycle.

I hope BMW co-develops the M and the non-M for near simultaneous launch like Mercedes does with the AMG models.

I hope so too. Although I suspect unlikely given the compression of the product cycle.

I doubt it will stop them. It also wouldn't surprise me if the next 550i exceeds or matches the performance of the current M5 while running a 6 cylinder engine.

I'm wildly speculating but I'm guessing:
550i - 4000 lbs with 460hp as RWD, with optional AWD.
M5 - 3800 lbs with 600hp and maybe 100lbs more with optional AWD

600 lbs drop? That is a lot, but that again companies use some crazy new lightweight technologies nowadays.
Have you thought about the block? I am thinking all aluminum R6 with Tri-turbo and 8 speed DCT.

That's exactly what we need in the next m5 less weight, more power and AWD. If bmw doesn't deliver they will have missed the mark big time.

I think it's doable. My 2009 Lexus GS460 weighed 3900lbs and that's with a 4.6liter V8 under the hood. That car is almost the same size as the F10 and it doesn't have any CFRP just metal.

So with the benefit of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic and a smaller block tri turbo V8 (Im thinking 3.6 or 4.0) I think it's doable.

Agree on the 8 speed DCT.

The new CTS Vsport is 3600 lbs with a TT V6 and does 0-60 in 4.4. What 700+lbs can do to a car. I can't imagine what the CTS-V will be like, but I'm thinking that it will destroy the current M5 in all performance aspects.

Look at our seats, weighing 150 lbs per one, plain ridiculous.
All the techy gizmos that need computers to be controlled come with additional sensors, covers, harnesses and jigawatt power resistors add up to the car's weight. 3.6 or 4.0 v8 will sound even less ballsy than the upcoming 2015 c63. No bueno

This is what I'm thinking and afraid of. Already predicting the onslaught of CTS-V fanboys and trolls on this forum within the next couple of years. Lol!

Also I just found out today that the next 5-Series will get the chassis code of G30. Just as I was getting used to saying F10 too!

Don't like G30. Seems too weak.

I would think that the next M5 would get a different chassis code like the F80/F82 because I am pretty certain that the chassis of the next M5 will get way more carbon fiber reinforced plastic than the regular 5-Series. Don't know if it would be called G80 though. Maybe they should call it G6 you like that song "Fly like a G6!" Ok bad joke, I know.
