Opinions on Used CPO 2014 M5 deal? Urgent!

Hello guys!

I came across this deal while searching for a used 2014 M5.

2014 M5
CPO
6k miles
Exec Pack
Lighting Pack
20" M light alloy wheels

Negotiated price: $80k

The only downside is that it has a carfax history of "Rental vehicle". I asked the SA and he stated that it was used as a Corporate Executive rental for Hertz.

Should I take this deal?

Thanks in advance!

Was it registered by Hertz? If yes, I wouldn't pay for a car that was used as a rental. Too many unknown variables around proper break-in, maintenance and how many people have hammered on it as a rental car.

When I rent I drive the cars like they are NOT my own :-) Just my $02.

I know which M5s you are talking about. They are on cars.com for both a white and a black m5. DO NOT BUY them. People rent them for the weekend and abuse the hell out of them.

Look for a low mileage trade in or lease. I was looking at a 2014 M5 w/ 3k miles that was traded in. They were asking $84,500, but you could have got it for $82 or $83.

I understand the concern over the rental vehicle issue. However, wouldn't the CPO status give me an extra layer of protection against possible repair issues (due to previous abuse)? By the way, I will be keeping the car for less than 40k miles/ 4years.
More opinions would be greatly appreciated!

CPO gives you that protection, but would you like to spend days with 328 (loaner car) while your 80K M5 is sitting in service department waiting for back order parts?

Don't go near that car - especially a high performance car used as a rental. You may have CPO protection, but do you really want the car that has a higher likelihood of spending time in the shop? Plus with these cars, your dealer can easily dick around with you and not really fix the issue.

I would strongly advise you not to consider fleet cars, even with CPO.

If you're going to keep for less than 4 years/40K miles.. why not lease?

The current 39 Month least programs are good, provide full warranty for the term you describe and no issues wondering about the history of the car. Plus you can pick and choose the options that you want versus what someone else chose.

NOPE. you could not PAY me to take that car. As other of mentioned stay away. A non rental CPO gets a thumbs up.

Thanks for your opinions guys!
I have not ruled out the option of leasing new M5. However, since I already have 991S as a weekend car, I didn't want to lose too much money on my DD (M5) during the term of keeping it.. These M5s are depreciating hard and I didn't want to be hit with the initial steep depreciation.
Now I'm thinking I should just do a ED on a exact build that I want and keep it for a long time or something..

The car you were referring to, have a MSRP of ~103K
If you wait 5-6 months in summer when the 2016 models are arrived, you can find the same car (but brand new 2015 model) with about 10-15 k off MSRP! Many members including me have got that much or even more discounts...
Goodluck!

As a Hertz renter of those cars, specifically the M5 and E63 I wouldn't touch them... I agree the CPO, etc. protects you some but the price doesn't make up for the risk, if it were a better deal I might roll the dice as well but it isn't worth it at those numbers..

If you are really looking for a CPO M5, look at just regular '14 CPOs. They can be had for a few thousand dollars more without the wear and tear faced by those rentals.
