Here are some things that can be done to minimize brake squeal:
1: properly break in the pads and rotors after driving carefully for about 200 miles; 2: keep the wheels as clean as possible from brake dust; 3: have the leading edges of the brake pads chamfered; 4: treat the backing plates of the brake pads with a high quality, high temperature anti-squeal product such as this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...M5K7Z4AETQHSQ4 I rarely hear it on my car now with about 8K miles on it. If I do I can make it stop by a hard braking maneuver a couple of times. Bish |

I did not do the bed in process. I've gone roughly 2000 miles after the dealer did the fix consisting of cold an hot temp weather. My buddy has an M5 and his brakes were bad too so I had him go by my dealer and his are fixed now as well.

Wondering if the bed in process is more for an aggressive driving style and those that are tracking their vehicle vs. daily drivers that get into it once in awhile. Or is it just a good practice and should be done by everyone with this car and brake system no matter your driving style?

Waiting for my SA to get back to me. I did have a sharp metallic sound that would happen over bumps as well. Turns out it was the brakes. Something wasn't aligned right. Now no squealing and no more sharp metallic sound over bumps. My friends M5 ha the same metallic sound going over bumps as well. He is dropped on H&R's and im still rolling stock.

My 2013 M5 has 11000 km on it and the squeal noise from brake occasionally happened when I applied brake from low speed to a complete stop. I sent my car back and BMW said it was normal and the noise was due to uneven accumulation of iron dust on the braking disc. Although this noise doesn't come up all the time, it completely destroys my confidence in BMW.

Frankly when a person buys a high performance vehicle that comes with high performance brakes there are things that just must be accepted. If not, buy a Lexus. Bish |

mine hasn't been making any noise since the temperature went up. It was really bad when daytime temperature was below freeze point.

Enough was enough - after complaining about the squeal for the last yr or so, I dropped it off and told them that it had to be fixed.
Few days later they said there was a campaign out by BMW for this and they pasted the guide pins. I'm not enough of a brake junkie to know how this would actually stop the squeal but so far it had(knock on alot of wood) |

I had mine fixed at the dealership yesterday. They replaced both pads without charge. There has been no squeaking yet (no surprise with new pads) but I was just reading over the service invoice and saw the following:
"....Note: new pads come with weight cylinders that prevent brake from making noise." |
