Engine light with no status indication

Noticed the engine light was staying on this morning but there are no status warnings listed. Called the dealership. Anyone else seen this? Wondering if it's related to the new parts. Pretty sure it just showed up this morning since it's next to the DSC light and I have been switching that on and off and hence would be looking in that direction before today.

It went away but this evening when I started it up, it stopped and when I restarted it, it was in limp mode, drive train malfunction. So I drove to Torchy's in limp mode, no big deal around town and went in to get some tacos. Came out and it was fine. I suppose this probably has something to do with the ECU getting used to whatever DTronics is doing to the car. It's running OK now and it was when the engine light was on. SA said if the engine light cleared not to worry about it, it can even be a gas cap not on any good. I checked that.

This is not the norm. I would call dinan directly. Could be unrelated all together but the timing would point out otherwise.

You should have someone scan the control modules regardless if the light went away.
There is a code stored that created your engine to go into "limp mode".
That is not good my friend.
It may happen again. Better get it scanned before something bad does happen.

Car is in the shop and Dinan is going to work with the BMW tech here to get the CEL and limp mode issue addressed.

Sorry I assumed you had a OBD scanner since you went with an aggressive list of mods . I would strongly suggest getting one .

Noelle Downpipes on order and Dinan Stage 2 with Cold Air Intake and Dinan Exhaust. The only thing not on is the downpipes.

What was your fuel level? I got a DT malf when I had less that a quarter tank then went up the ramp to my shop.

No, it's airflow issues. Has to do with the airbox having a hole in the bottom. There are three different versions, hole, snorkel and closed. DTronics only works with the closed version and they have seen this before so I think they are sending the bottom plates without holes to the dealership.

Terry Burger said that the snorkel at the bottom helps prevent the cel. Even with the hole.

Dinan setup is a bit different. They are having air enter the box from before the radiator ( lots of forced positive psi) so I. This case they must be getting some kind of odd flow in from the new intake and trying to exit the snorkel .

Spinny is correct just by reading the M5 intake product page on Dinan's website.

The first thing to note is that Dinan's cold air intakes have always been closed systems (aka taking air from outside the engine compartment). Having a hole / snorkel grabbing air from within the engine compartment flies directly in that principles face and essentially makes it a hot air intake. So having some sort of plug for a factory hole / snorkel in the airbox seems logical for them. Having the hole option in particularfrom BMW just seems very odd to begin with. Almost feels like a stop gap measure / fix in design but alas I am not an engineer so that may not be the case. Regardless the product page states that the the cold air intake utilizes the stock intake paths as well as adding supplemental / additional ones seemingly from the same area judging by the pictures. If there was a hole/snorkel on the bottom of the airbox bringing in air from a different direction / angle as those original and supplemental pathways the air would mix into a turbulent mess in the airbox and would not flow correctly through to the engine and lead to poor results since its obviously not an optimized airflow.
