Thanks RPiM5 for a great day in Washington
Thanks to Dave for meeting us and taking us for a ride in his M5 today!!!
We are on vacation in the US at the moment and spent a few days in Washington DC, Dave offered to meet us and took us for a drive around the sights and around DC. Thanks!!! The exhaust on that car is just awesome!!!! It sounds so angry and menacing. It's definitely so much more exotic sounding than a normal M5 And at the same time, just cruising it's sounds loud but not intrusive. Cabin sound was also way more liveable than what I expected. Also drove up to Silver Springs BMW to check out their M3. They had a deposit down on it, otherwise we could have gotten a test drive in it... The sales rep was kind enough to start it up though. The cold start wasn't great sounding and idle was ok. Didn't sound like a BMW straight six. More raw and mechanical perhaps. Will post a few pics later, but leaving the hotel now and don't have the camera at hand... Thanks again Dave |

Anytime bro!
You know there has been talk of making my M5 a national attraction here in DC. There's legislation in the works. Getting to hear your two sons and wife giggle and laugh in the back was very satisfying for me too, so thank you for that. I hardly ever get to ferry around a full car load and I love using the M5 for what it is good at. Even with a full car of 5 people there's so much torque on hand that it makes little difference to the performance feel of the car. Funny story happened after I dropped you guys off too. I went to the Dept of State for my seminar and ended up parking my M5 in a metered spot on a street right next to the building. The meter machine was broken and I literally couldn't put any coins into it and I was running late so I just left the M5 there. As I was walking away from my M5 a security guard stopped me and was admiring my car a lot, he said he would make sure it didn't get a parking ticket. Sure enough when I came back out, he said they tried to give it a ticket, but he stopped them. I was like "hell yeah dude!" He even asked me to rev the engine right in front of the State building. I was like ok! Haha! It's funny the disparity between DC law enforcement and that of Virginia which is only just across the river. I've had several DC police officers give me compliments and thumbs up on the M5 and ask me tons of questions cause they loved it and in Virginia I would have been thrown in jail for revving the engine in front a police officer. The DC area isn't so bad for car enthusiasts it's just Virginia that ruins the car culture for everybody. Anyways, it was great hanging out and finally meeting you and your family. Glad that we got to surprise your boys and show them what a real exotic car is like.

Dave is the best! He met up with me and took me for a ride in his rocket ship with all the torques. I bet I was giggling more than Boss330's wife and kids. Testament to the M5 and Dave's mods.

Still not able to post pictures as we have been on the move and are now staying with family in South Dakota. Will try to upload next week as we stay with family in Michigan.
The US is great though! So many friendly people! We have had so many great experiences that I will share and post photos of later. |

A few photos.
Anybody know how to put text under the images when you upload them from your computer as attachments? Anyway, in one of the photos you can see my oldest son crouching down to get a photo of the M5 as it approaches. He doesn't know that I have arranged to meet Dave and that we will get a ride in it... He just saw the M5 and wanted to take a photo of it as it approaches The photos following that are kinda self explanatory Last edited by Boss330; 07-01-2014 at 10:17 PM.. |

Great pictures.
Dave, When I'm done with my 1200 mile service, I'm going to come down to DC to visit the museums (my daughter wants to see the planes and space shuttle). Why don't we meet and put the 1/4 mile times thing to rest? We can do all sorts of tests, 0-60, 0-100, 60-130, braking from 100, 60, etc. We can also swap cars if you want. Let me know I know you are going to smoke me with your 700hp beast, but let's see how good the baby boy holds up against your big guy. Thanks |
