Interior rattles

Noticing two distinct rattles...

1. A high pitched chirp over bumps, seems to be coming from the left side glove compartment by your knee when driving?

2. A medium pitch harmonic rattle coming from the ashtray.

Both of these can only be heard over certain kinds of bumps but when there is no music and you are cruising down the highway in high gear, it gets really annoying hearing little rattles.

Anyone have either of these or figured out what I am talking about?

Maybe I should just turn up the music...

I can't say I have these sounds but... I love loud music & loud exhausts so I don't notice rattles.

I don't have those rattles but I do have the high frequency buzz's from both of my B pillars all the time and the occasional inherent buzzing from the B&O center speaker that is a known problem. Luckily I don't have the rear suspension clunk. I'm gonna get the buzzing from the B pillars fixed the next time I take Mika in for service.

I have a few rattles, namely in the B-pillar and sunroof. A pop every once in a while from the rear shelf.

I try to ignore them. I'd probably make them worse trying to fix them.

None of those. But I have the front passenger seat belt rattle and the famous rear clunking, driver's side door seal (which gummi flege didn't fix).

Maybe BMW could design an active sound to mask these noises ....

They did. It's called your radio.

Have the same B-Pillar buzzing. Pls let me know how the techs resolve it (if they can find it). Thanks!

I have this and it has been driving me crazy for more than a year. This exact problem was also the most elusive for me.

Any word on the b pillar rattle? I've had mine for only 650 miles, and this rattle drives me crazy.

Rattle rattle ... Going crazy!
(B pillar, seat belt buckle, cup holder, steering wheel, door panels, rear deck panel, sunroof)
My car was rattling everywhere, it's driving me crazy! My car have been into dealer 3 times for rattles. I just got my car back 3 days ago and the rattle is now gone!

I will be seeing the dealer again.... (rear clunking noise) The mechanic ordered the new part but it will not be available until next week.

Can you tell me what they did to solve the rattling issue?

For me it was the seat belt buckle ratting against the B-pillar molding. It would occur after someone sat in the seat and the seat belt would get caught on the seat, leaving the buckle perpendicular to the B-pillar. The rattle is minimized/eliminated by flattening the buckle against the molding and using the plastic retention clip to hold the buckle at the top of the seatbelt against the B-pillar. Hopefully this solution cures your issue.

Yeah, such an annoying thing. I'm always having to adjust where the buckle sits on the seat.

I am extremely sensitive to any rattles in the car, but after 3000 miles in the car it is still quiet. Crossing my fingers it remains like this. Build date is 4/13

I had a buzzing noise coming from the drivers B pillar. Not sure exactly what they did to fix it, but gone now. I also had a sh!t ton of squeaks coming from the doors and sunroof. They replaced all of the seals and the noise is gone now as well. Still have one rattle left, which I thought would have been the easiest, coming from the HUD button panel. It was gone after about 50 miles from the last attempt to fix it, but came back. Need to get the car back over to the dealer again.

You may want to try to fix that yourself. It is pretty accessible.

Would love to, but I am not going to be doing anything myself for the next 6-8 weeks. Shattered my collar bone last Thursday along with a few broken ribs and a fractured scapula. Having some hardware installed tomorrow to put Humpty Dumpty together again.
