Oh my god... For that price you will probably be able to buy close to 4 m5's in the US!!

Is that monte carlo blue? Looks great in that lighting.

is this a demand / dealer spike / early production price or is this what the actual msrp of the car will be in turkey? If the latter; then I am appalled...

Last time I was in turkey (1984), it didn't look like the place you'd even want to drive a BMW, let alone a M5 lol. I guess things have changed a lot.

Probably a mix of the arrogant ottoman dealer and import taxes.

Questforpower it's all about varying import duties and taxes which are most often higher in countries where balance of payments/foreign exchange management remains a constant challenge. Ie. most often levied on consumer luxury goods like cars which are not essential to the economy and drain central bank foreign reserves.

Luckily for the US the $ is the world reserve currency so duties tend to be more of a trade deficit management tool unlike Turkey which spends so much on defense and imports with almost certainly not as much to export to earn forex. In some counties that car would be over US$500k... Ouch

Its due to taxes. Many countries have 120% import taxes to protect domestic industry. They also tend to be poorer countries and if you are that rich in a poor country then u should pay your fiar share.

Funny seeing that. I live in Long Island, NY and I was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. Everything is expensive there. An iPhone 4 cost about 1,000$ for a 16GB when it first came out my family told me.

Thank-you for making me grateful when I complain that our cars cost more than in the US. The US has the world's lowest car prices.

By the way OP, what color is that? Me LIKE!

Turkey is not a poor country at all.
I was there last week: in Istanbul and Izmit. The industry and economy is very strong, maybe stronger than many countries from UE

Just buy a cheap ass house in Greece, buy an M5 there, put it on Greek plates and just drive over to Turkey. Probably a lot cheaper.

Thank you for posting this fact about how prices are so much higher in other countries besides the US. I know this is a 5er forum, but over in the 3er area, people are b*tching about triple digit price increases for the new F30.

lol... Gotta love it.

you would be surprised how many people buy such expensive cars in Turkey. Each range rover you see on the street would be equivalent to a base RR Phantom in US. The 458 spider had about 10 orders before it came out and the estimated price for that car was approximately 530,000 Euros... there is 175% tax for any car with engines larger than 2000 cc. Unfortunately, as a Turkish citizen, if i go back home, i wont be able to take my car back with me, because i still need to pay the taxes. In addition, the gas prices is ˜3 times more expensive back there. I can say that for all the time i spend back home, i never filled up a gas tank for less than 100$.

everytime there is a budget deficit, the government jacks up the taxes on cars and gas. very sad for Turkish car enthusiasts

Where are you in Turkey? Incirlik? Adana?

Turkey has changed a lot since the 1980s and has underwent a big push in modernization. They have well developed areas, and not so developed areas. Same goes for the roads.

Depends on where you are. I could say the same thing about crap roads here in the US that I wouldn't want to drive a BMW on

source: I'm 1/2 Turkish, and been there many times.
