Have added some videos of the noise.

(Cruising) U can hear the frequency change when i tap

(under load)

(Notice how it goes away in 5th)

This guy had same issue but he has a 6MT.

2013 M5 DCT with catless dp, grill intake and resonator delete

I have the same exact type of noise. It's there when accelerating.

Not sure if it's because of the very cold recently temperature been around 18-20 F.

It is NOT from engine. It seems to be under the gearbox. It sounds like a supercharger sometimes it's louder than before sometimes it's quieter but it's always present. Even when you let off the pedal the noise is there the frequency changes when you press the pedal.

For some reason in 5th gear noise is barely audible.

I did not have this noise before. The car is still pulling hard and DCT behaving fine. I just took the car on a 9 hour road trip and no problem

So I noticed when accelerating the whirring gets louder but once in 5th gear its gone, back in 6th, and 7th. It is in pretty much every gear but the 5th gear.

Car continues to pull strong, DCT is shifting great. I know some GTR have this type noise and they say its normal but this never was there before and GTR is different class of car.

any suggestions

Do you check dct oil? I think you have leaking gasget. I think it might be
Megatronic gasket. Leak is so tiny that not leak when car is parked. Only drive you shold look under the car when gearbox is warm right after driveing.
Sorry bad english.

Yes i think you can live with that. But noise isn’t normal. My frends m6 y 2014 makes exactly same noise and it is leaking gasget. But if your gasket area is dry that is good. Easy way that drive litle while whitout that plastic cover under gearbox. Then you can find if gasget leaks.

I had it checked just two month ago when I was at 49k mile. The big transmission pan itself was dry.

Now at 57k I think its possible it could be leaking as its a common issue on all BMW DCT. I am going to order the full kit and replace the transmission pan with upgraded gasket, perform full flush and also replace the mechatronic sleeve gasket.

Does you know if the DCT needs to be removed for the mechatronic gasket?

The CEL is on due to catless downpipe without a tune

Yes. You have to remove dct for the mechatronic gasget. There is one other thing. You should test this 4 or 5 torx bolts. Not gasget bolts. This bolts biger than gasget bolts. Iwe seen few dct bolts are loosen.

Is there any sense use catless downpipes without tune. Just ask. I think this drops torgue with lower rpms.

I did just for sound

Is it obvious the side gasket (mechatronic) is leaking once you pull the bottom tray off? I am hoping the side gasket is not leaking but if it is there anyway to replace without dropping the DCT?

I i mean thise big torx bolts bigger than trans pan bolts. If i wrote in finnish use translater.

Pultit eivät ole vaihdelaatikon pohjan pultit vaan alimpana vaihdelaatikoa olevat isot torx pultit. Näiden pulttien kiinnityskohdassa ei ole tiivistettä vaan tiivistemassa.

By any chance, do you downshift harshly whilst slowing down (i.e. dropping it to first gear so the revs go up to like 5k RPM)?

This may well be why...

I've personally noticed in the past when I had a CL63 AMG (with AMG's MCT which is on a similar principle using clutches) that the whine got slightly worse and worse each time I drove it like that, and realised that I was being too harsh when driving it.

I never got round to getting it investigated but it wasn't very good for the car to do that. From then on, I use my brakes for braking (although it doesn't sound as good from outside!)

EDIT: Just so you know, my username has now changed to sonnenschein3000

Anyone update on this whine?

I have the same issue, where I can hear it in 4th, 6th and 7th, but 5th is quiet.

I want to make sure this is an actual issue before I take it to the dealer.

Thanks!
