Coolant smell on start up

I have a question to determine if it's a problem or not.

I have a 2013 M5 with 30,000 miles with Dinan Stage 1. I get a coolant smell on the first cold start of every day. It's a smell that dissipates after I leave for and doesn't seem to return until the next cold start the next day. Do I have some sort of problem?

I have not noticed any leaks on the ground nor in the engine bay. I also have noticed that the coolant levels for the turbos seem to always be low.

Any advice you can provide would be helpful.

there was a recall for the coolant lines some time ago. The heat from the engine was expanding the fittings/hoses and causeing coolant to leak. Happened to me, went to BMW and they fixed and covered it under warranty.

Pull the engine cover off and see if the coolant lines are heat wrapped; that was the TSB.

Did they wrap the coolant lines for the fix like the others suggested?

And does someone know the SIB / TSB reference code number for this fix?

Okay, is this what is should look like with the coolant lines wrapped? With those that have had this fix, do you get a slight smell of coolant at cold start?

I posted the thread with pictures of the recall done. Yes, my car has had the recall and that's what it looks like. No, I do not get any coolant smell.

Okay, thanks for responding. I must have a small leak somewhere and will get it looked at since I am still under warranty.

Def get it fixed. It could be one of the small hoses under the heat shield leaking and when it sits it pools. On start up your smelling it once it heats up. Could be a very easy fix. GL!

Yes. Took them half a day. The smell kind of lingered for a couple days but eventually faded away. No problems since.

Okay, I am reporting back from my original post. Brought my vehicle in to get the front and rear strut and spring assemblies replaced per SIB 330113.

At the same time I had them investigate why I am smelling coolant at cold starts. They pressure tested the system and found no leaks. The results of the test were 17-00-509(2) 17-11-48-00 PS. I have no idea what that means. They told me I must be smelling something other than coolant at cold start.

It might just be the odor that comes from bacteria in the AC ducts. The "mildew/wet sock smell" can smell similar to coolant.

You know what....that's probably it. I have a kids almost 10 and 12 years old and I know that smell unfortunately Thanks for the advice.

I never smelled it in my e60 M5 but crazier things have happened.
