New car

Hey guys sorry I've been a bit lazy reporting on the car.

The car arrived as promised by the dealer on the 8th January. Looks like I was panicking for no reason. It was just that I had dealt with so many dealers in the past these guys just had a very relaxed attitude.

Anyway the car came on a transporter and the delivery guy was very helpful even tried to talk me through it. Now the car from Scotland so you can imagine how dirty it was I couldn't really appreciate it properly.

But I've had it washed since and can say that saphire black with silverstone looks stunning in person.

The car came with no tinted windows so my first call was to pentagon glass to have the windows tinted.

I've used pentagon for their security tints for years now they use a brilliant smash proof film which is very difficult to penetrate.

Only trouble is it's been nearly 2 weeks and I still have bubbles!

I have taken it back there to get it checked and in fairness to them the bubbles are reducing every day.

They explained that it was the low temperature that was causing the film to take time to set.

Writing this today I have only 2 or 3 bubbles showing so I guess we're nearly there.

Now for the car, I have had one of these before in 2011 and I loved it but due to a few glitches with it I got out of it.

This one for some reason feels a little more raw and eager. I haven't pushed it above 3500 rpm just yet but I have stretched its legs a little.

I love the 19" rims with the turbine look and feel that the car handles better on them compared to the previous one with 20" on it.

4 days in to owning the car my exhaustmeister arrived. It was a bit of a pain having it delivered as it took absolutely ages to come.

I was excited to install it but I don't know how you guys have stated it takes 10-15 minutes to install.

The thing took me nearly 2 hours.

There is so much to remove in terms of padding and trim its crazy.
Once completing the install the engine had cooled down so upon starting it and activating the exhaustmeister I was very pleased with the subtle but very apparent difference.

It seems to get louder by the day as the exhaust is getting run in.

Ok now for my concerns:

There is only one, oil consumption, the car has done 870 miles and I get a warning message saying oil level at minimum.

I thought initially it was a bad reading so I checked it 4 times but it was definitely at the minimum.

My nearest dealer was about 20 local road miles away and I nursed the car there the next morning. I was lucky to get a litre on a Saturday afternoon.

Is this normal have any of you guys had this?

It took the whole litre to get back up to maximum but I have to say I was shocked at this consumption.

I would love to have your thoughts.

Johnbmwm5 was very helpful in providing me the details of the guys at CyBA and I am just about to pull the trigger in some chrome tips

I was going to go for black or carbon but seeing the original ones I love how they look so I'm sticking with chrome.

I'll do another report once the car has had it's running in service and let you know how it drives properly.

I would keep an eye on the Oil consumption, seems excessive to me, but others have had that consumption so your not alone.
It is possible the car was not totally full from the off, I have seen this on a couple of M5's, only half way up the screen from NEW.

Have you got the service pack?, if so Oil top-ups are free.

I have the service pack but don't use for oil top ups. The time and cost going to the dealer massively outweighs the £12 cost saving.

I had to add oil in the first 1000 miles, mine has now done 12,000 miles and I have only had to add two further top-ups, so wouldn't be concerned...

N63-S63 definitely burn oil. I've put in 3 quarts in 9k miles on my M5. My old 550i was burning oil at a similar rate.

I've done 7k miles on my M3 without a single top off. I think it's a turbo thing.

Its normal, my car has 20K miles, and I need to add oil every 800 miles. I keep many bottles at home and just fill it up when she needs it. Congrats BTW, and please add more pictures with the tints..

this is def not normal. likely poor gasket seal/blow-by

Oil requirement has been variable between M5ers. I owned a 550i and broke it in by the book - required oil every 3-5k miles. I did a hard break-in w/ my M5 and have not needed any oil although I am only at around 5k right now.

I did the same as you "Hard Break-in" NO Oil used at all.
Miles 4900 Miles.
If my M5 used Oil @ 800/1000 mile intervals, I would get shot of it.

I don't see the big issue with oil consumption. I have to put in a litre every 1000 miles. Oil is cheap and the effort negligible. Better to consume oil than incur engine wear.

My dealer gave me several quarts without me even asking saying these engines eat oil pretty regularly.

I'm on my 3rd F10 with a V8 twin turbo (had 2012 550i, 2013 M5, and now 2014 M5). None of them ever needed a top-up.

Congrats. Awesome wheels. Those base 19" 345M wheels are way underrated. I can't wait until mine arrive next week. I plan on running those 1/2 the year (winter months) and 601Ms for the warmer months.

Agreed but the best option is no oil consumption. If oil is going up (above the cylinder head) then combustion is going down (below the cylinder head). Generally means a loss of power to the wheels.

Doesn't make it right. What's the other option, for them to say their break in recs are faulty and rebore your engine??? Replacing oil is easy, fixing the issue is not. I can see some oil consumption but a quart every 1k??? No way.

Less than ideal but not something I worry about. If it breaks its a warranty fix.

I've got 6,500 miles on my car and I've had to put a quart in every 800-1,000 miles since new. Besides having read the experiences of forum members, I had several dealerships tell me that it's normal.
