New M5

Well I picked up my new M5 yesterday and all I can say is WOW! It replaced a former 2011 535i that although I loved, wanted a bit more excitement. Yeah the M5 has a bit more excitement,

Could'nt put too many miles on it yet....it's very cold here and had to watch my right foot, but what I did drive gave me a very favorable opinion of the M. The DCT is just amazing and in my opinion way better than the 8 speed I had before.

I know......Pictures! sorry none yet.....but it is Alpine White, Black interior, Anthracite, 20" 343 Wheels, Executive, Driver Assit, B&O, and LED.

One admitadly anal question. Is it possible to "twist" the Strut Tower Electrical Boot? The reason I ask is that one side goes one way, the other goes another. I know that is does'nt matter but would like to match each side up somewhat if all it takes is a little rotation. I know, weird question.

Thanks again for eveyone's participation, a great forum to be part of.

Congatz! I have 535i and will get my M5 in few weeks too.

Could you compare more between the M5 & 535i in term of steering and handling?

I took the car out for a long drive today. The M is definitely a firmer ride, but very pleasant compared to the 535. It is not harsh and soaks up most bumps pretty well. Even though I now have the low profile tires, I suspect the feel is comparable to the taller run flats in the 535.....but better. All I can say is that I do prefer the ride in the M. As far as steering, the M reminds me of prior BMW's I have owned with power steering. The M gives a greater feel for the road...slightly heavier weighting, but is fine. I have to admit that I am still getting used to it, but do prefer it over the electric system. Most of all, the M is really fun when playing with the comfort/sport/sport+ dynamics of the car. For a while I was in Sport Plus on all aspects and it really does give you a different car. Still getting used to the DCT, but really prefer it over the 8 Speed. No more lurching through the stops in my neighborhood! (This still gets a lot of complaints in the 5 series forums.)

Congratulations. Be careful with the throttle, especially when road is cold.

Thanks for the review.

Glad to hear the steering and the handling are back to classic BMW.

Yes, no more jerky throttle.

You don't have CP, do you?

Thanks Stealth, I need to remind myself of the cold. I still haven't ordered a winter setup and will be doing so shortly. When I took the car out for my first shakedown cruise yesterday, it was 40° out....not ideal for the summer tires. The M did fine though. I have to admit that this is the first car I have ever owned that gives me a big grin when I drive it!

Alas it snowed 10" today so the car stayed inside.

No I didn't get CP. After reading all the forums, decided that it would not suit my needs.

My first experience driving an M5 on cold Tarmac was at the M Performance school where on the very first morning, I went full throttle coming out of a corner in MDM and spun the car 270 degrees. Glad it wasn't my car.
